Self Reflection Essay- Strategic Group Analysis Introduction As I learned about Strategic group analysis, I noticed that it sets the stage for further analysis of how the concept is associated with fundamental societal and individual processes. I have learned how to formulate and create several hypotheses based on the theory. This helps in determining the suitable application of strategic group analysis within a setting. Strategic groups are seen in the hotel sector where I worked for a significant period How I experienced the concept During my work sessions in the hotel industry, I noticed that strategic group analysis focuses on varied theories especially use of resources, and coordination of personnel. This allowed the organization to use its provisions to enhance growth. Strategic analysis indicates that class struggles usually exist with an organization. I also learned that dissatisfaction, reason, and intellectual processes within a group determine its success. Emerging processes within the globe also plays a crucial role in the strategic analysis process because it focuses on the relation between behavior, and societal processes. In the hotel industry, the probability of a group behaving in a particular manner largely depends on the potency that the act will result to a positive outcome. Consequently, I believe that the successful application of the strategic group analysis is dependent on the association resources and ability of groups to appropriate resources. The theory allows individuals to adapt alternative behaviors through deciding behaviors to execute, and effort to apply within diverse settings. I learned that the invention of new knowledge, modes of production, and avenues of conducting trade are fundamental aspects of strategic group analysis. However, other forces may limit the application of the theory such as performance association. It is apparent that each group tries to maximize resources. For example, the application of the Strategic Group theory within the hotel industry means that managers are likely to resort to motivation in an attempt to maximize job performance, and enhance modes of production. Consequently, I find this theory beneficial to hotel Industry Company where I work because it handles the appropriation of resources for specific function. This department is very involving and requires highly motivated workers. I feel that the management needs to incorporate some lessons derived from this theory to increase its knowledge, productivity, and avenues of conducting trade. How it is expanded my thinking? Prior to studying Strategic Group Analysis, I did not understand that strategic action allows one to formulate new ideologies. For example, strategic action through increased productivity allows an organization to appropriate resources. Failure to enhance timely and sequential operations creates several challenges within an organization such as decreased efficiency and profit loss. It is necessary for groups to understand the need for knowledge and productive force. Although the management controls the direction of the organization, group actions are the determinants of productivity in an organization (Gitman, & Daniel, 2008). My thinking has expanded because I acknowledge that strategic groups are crucial because they enhance strategic group analysis. As I worked in the hotel industry, I noticed that “strategic groups” are motivated employees who are committed to the work. Consequently, it is necessary for the organization to address the needs of strategic groups through rewards. I have also understood that Strategic group theory focuses on crucial aspects like appropriation that enhance the use of specific resources. These modes create unity within a group. For example, a hotel may offer rewards to groups to make them productive. In absence of these rewards, the hotel is unlikely to perform well. Additionally, strategic group analysis allows an organization to gather relevant information to determine the appropriate direction. My knowledge has expanded because I acknowledge that studying organizational patterns is a fundamental aspect of strategic group analysis. It focuses on determining behavior, and the measures that will enhance growth within an organizational setting. Pattern analysis determines the availability of appropriate strategies that will guide progress. Applying this theory to the hotel industry means that managers should ask their employees questions regarding the company directly. I believe that class formation is a crucial aspect that determines the application of strategic group analysis. It focuses on separating the society into distinct classes to enhance their utilization of resources. I acknowledged from the learning process that it is closely associated with expectancy theory that presumes that behavior results from conscious selections among alternative whose intent is to maximize pleasure and reduce pain. Class formation hugely depends on diverse personal factors such as personality, ability and experience determines employee’s performance. Class formation in the workplace is usually dependent on performance and motivations are connected with the success of an individual. Consequently, three variables are fundamental when accounting for entire process. This theory is not all about individual interest in rewards but association’s individuals make towards anticipated outcomes, and contribution towards outcomes. Class formation within an organization predicts that employee motivation increases when they believe that directing more effort will result to excellent job performance. This is likely to will result to organizational rewards such as salary increment or benefits. How I will apply in real life? Strategic group formation is equally a crucial aspect of the strategic group formation. It entails the application of group dynamics when coming up with suitable modalities that will guide the operational processes within an organization. While working in the hotel industry, several groups are formed based on the need to accomplish specific objectives. The initial step entails the identification of strategic resources that would facilitate the diverse groups to meet their objectives. This usually falls under sequential analysis. After the identification of strategic resources, the concerned organization should formulate a managerial team that would identify the persons with the appropriate qualifications that would propel the organization towards the required growth levels. It is clear that failure to choose the right professional will strain the organization in its quest to attain objectives. Power ranking is applicable in the hotel industry by acknowledging. It entails strictly following protocol, and respecting hierarchy within a group. It is improper for a group to lack power structures because they enhance growth, and allow personnel to focus on organizational objectives. It is crucial to identify networks, and coalitions within groups as apparent in the hotel (Evers ND). This empowers individuals to avoid conflicts, and act within the stipulated arrangements. This enhances balances that foster understanding and growth. Additionally, it sets the stage for sequential analysis and adaption of appropriate strategies. What I liked about it and did not like? I liked it that hotels can use the strategic analysis process to determine needs and dissatisfactions of employees. Secondly, managers can take precise steps to connect returns to individual performance. One mode of ensuring that employees see this connection is publicizing the manner of making pay decisions. Lastly, managers can authorize employees to make informed decisions, if the organization wants them believe that their hard work will result to optimal performance. I did not like the flaws in the theory that allows managers to provide a guideline that confines the capability of employees or by ignoring them. If managers want to ensure that employees exhibit strong expectancies, they must empower them to make decisions. Conclusion It is crucial for an organization to embrace group processes with the intention of enhancing operations, and offering guidance to developing entities. Indeed, the strategic group analysis sets the stage for proper use of resources. I believe that an organization such as hotel can attain success by only using acceptable aspects of strategic group analysis process.
