Managing People in Engineering Company Chosen: Lantex a U.K based manufacturing company that specializes in textile production. It has been around for nearly a century now and has a large group of satisfied customers. It has strictly adhered to the standards and requirements of management and engineering. The following questions are addressed relevant to the company performance and working. It enjoys a long list of international customers and clients that are spread all over the world (Lantex, 2012). How work force planning is used to assess staffing requirements: Planning is an integral part of any organizational working. It is being said that failing to plain is planning to fail. In Lantex the requirements are duly considered with regard to the requirements of staff. The staff is the backbone of entire process and they make each project a success or a failure. Work force is distributed into working shifts and the right man is employed at the right place. b) How general employment affects the effective workforce recruitment selection: The right man for right job is a renowned phenomenon in field of business management and industry working. Therefore ensuring that the particular discipline has the appropriate kind of person employed becomes very important. A standardized policy needs to be defined that is in pure alignment with the requirements and merit of a reputed company. c) Outline the processes and procedures carried out when recruiting the personnel for engineering post: A multi facet process is undertaken for the purpose of inducting an individual in the company .this process is sufficient enough to evaluate the abilities and performance of an individual and to determine if he or she is worthy of the post and position. The recruiting procedure comprises number of tests and interviews, each focusing on the different dimensions which will filter out all the abilities of an individual. While some are focused on their technical grip and knowledge of the subject, others are related to their handling of the situation, the human relations affairs dealing and other pertinent aspects. Q: 2 Different working relationships within the working organization of engineering: The effective working relationships between different members of the team both inside and outside have a large impact on the outcomes of activities. Formal standard operating procedures must be defined that are focused on mutual trust, understanding, cooperation which ensures smooth working. Each relationship has the basic prerequisite of fulfilling the communication needs. Since lack of communication between any two units can result in the entire failure and staling of the project, organization and its units. In successful companies like Lantex, a consistent mode of information transfer exists between different units which enable workload sharing, process forwarding and hence completion of tasks in time and in a proper manner. The onus of responsibility falls largely on the top management. Their attitude towards solving the problems and further taking the members on board in major decisions craft a successful sail of the entire journey and project. Different units should work in coherence with the other unit and their objectives should not be in any conflict what so ever to the main aim of organization. Special teams are often in place, which ensures smooth working and harmony between the different units. Examine lines of authority with in an engineering organization: The line of authority can be drawn from the top management. The top management includes the policy makers, the roles definer, the guidance providers, the strategists, the long term plan sketchers and various other important members and units that are necessary for the successful operations of the organization. c) Roles and responsibilities of employment with in the engineering organization: Each individual that is inducted in the organization has a designated role and responsibility assigned to him. This responsibility comes in number of ways. Though it is specified in the beginning, when an individual takes the job and position, yet there are self-obliging rules and requirements which serve as the guide line for performing the tasks. The top management has the responsibility of driving the unit members with themselves, the middle management has the role of a bridge between the top and lower management while the lower staff has an equal and important role. The lower staff is involved with the processes directly; therefore their role is equally critical. No role can be under estimated and each of them has equal weight age with regard to the importance. The members recruited on the managerial front have the role of looking after the managerial aspects, the smooth relationship of company with outside world, in-time deliveries, processing etc. d) Review the relevance of objectives of work place in engineering. Including achieving targets, supporting team members and monitoring performance: Objectives’ achievement and determination is a vital part of any organization. Without the objectives being defined no company or no unit can progress in a specified direction. Objective definition enables path determination and the roles’ definition. Roles cannot be assigned otherwise. Lantex objectives are more roughly associated with the quality products, reliable customer relationship and satisfaction, long term partnership, durability and providing what others fail to provide. Objectives further include the target determination, the budget evaluation, the areas to focus, the areas to neglect, the areas of high priority, relatively lower priority and so forth. Objectives greatly define the roles to be assigned, the unit to be employed, the resources to be invested. Hence the overall audit and blue print of the project at hand is roughly gauged and presented through the objective definition. It is for the benefit of the organization, its units, its members, and the outside entities involved in the collaboration. e) Explain how sub contractor can be managed? Sub-contractors play a vital role in the entire business processes. Their role is of importance and, therefore, needs proper management. The first and the foremost is the role definition, such as, for instance, an on-time task assignment followed by the resources providing. The sub-contractors serve as a bridge between the outside suppliers, retailers, and the manufacturing company inside itself. Sub-contractors enable signing and getting the contracts, the supply chain activities are largely handled by the sub contractors. The choice of the right kind of a sub-contractor is very important. Choosing the one who knows his responsibilities, the tasks and requirements makes life easy. They should be provided with clear guidelines, clear objectives of the entire project. Sub contractor in a way is an equal member of the entire team and unit and isolating him from the project would mean risking a serious factor.
