The main aim of the heuristic evaluation is to discover out the system related usability problems in the system design as a result system can work and perform in an effective way. Heuristic evaluation entails having a small set of usability analysis parameters that we use to evaluate the system working capabilities and user interface related aspects. This research and analysis based report will present the heuristic evaluation analysis of the two systems. These two systems are different in nature but offering the same kind of services (both are project management tools).

This report will provide a deep insight into the detailed analysis of the ACE-Project that is an online website system and Task-Merlin that is a desktop application. In this report, I will apply the “Jakob Nielsen's heuristics evaluation module”. The main attributes of this heuristics evaluation module are the wideness and diversity of system analysis factors. This heuristics evaluation module offers a deeper and effective way of system usability analysis. This report is going to present an analysis of two systems through the heuristic evaluation.

The first system is a web-based project management system and other is a desktop application. Both applications offer the same functionalities but have a different outlook. In this report, I will implement a heuristic evaluation of these two systems for inspecting their working and functionalities. The main aim of this report is to offer a detailed and comprehensive overview of the usability related factors and their investigation regarding effectiveness, severity, and user satisfaction. This report will also recommend some corrective actions and procedures for fixing and handling of these factors of the usability.

System usability based heuristics evaluation has its deep foundations in a variety of disciplines like psychology, cognitive sciences, computers, social sciences, and ethnography. The main element of human interaction based analysis is to learn how to apply effective user interface factors in the overall development of systems that are efficient, highly interactive, cost-effective and containing high degree of usability (Dix, Finlay, Abowd, & Beale, 1998) and (Myers, 1998).
