Value-Based Management and Accounting Practices: Small and Medium Enterprises - Research Paper Example

The research paper presents information about owner-managers of fast-growing small and medium enterprises in UK and USA. This is achieved through a qualitative methodology. Change in turnover is adopted as the measure of business growth. The study involves interviewing of firms that have achieved real turnover growth of about 60% over a period of three years. Small and medium-sized enterprises are rare i.e. constitute approximately 10% of the total business population in the two countries. With this regard, the arrangement of interviews with the principals with these firms using specified criteria was incredible.

Data was collected from few SMEs available in the two countries i.e. 21 firms from the United Kingdom and 18 firms from the USA. The study conducted used three main data sources that were collected from every business under study. Semi-structured interview topic guide, shop rt preview profile data, and graph which allowed the interviewees to give historical sales of their respective firms. This information is antecedent to discussing changes in sales that have occurred over a certain period of time.

The research conducted involved face-to-face semi-structured in the reviews which took a maximum of 40 minutes. The researcher also the ed follow-up telephone to inquire more about the firms. Short pre-interview profile data form was used to gather information pertaining to market and employment activities in each firm. After an interview with each firm, the summaries were established.
