In modern times, there is an increased awareness regarding wastewater and the importance of treating it. Wastewater is not just sewage. It is a mixture of liquids and solid materials that residents and businesses flush into sinks, drains and sinks, which ultimately pollutes the rivers, lakes and other water bodies. Wastewaters have been analysed to be harmful and poisonous for the very existence of lakes and rivers. Hence, treatment of wastewater is an important process that prevents the contamination and destruction of our waterways, drinking water resources and natural water resources. The basic goal of any water treatment plant is to remove pollutants which are present in water so that it is safe for drinking. Background description of company and its stake holders along with the objectives of the company XYZ Company has recently done a huge up gradation and it is going to employ 500 new employees into the company for the new unit. So a manager has been appointed to take into the works of the new department and he needs to provide the company with a business report covering the selection, recruitment and training perspective of the people there. The stakeholders here are the employees, the shareholders and the community as a whole. Some of the objectives of the company are: Improvement of the Environment. Increase wastewater recycling. An Implementation Plan The implementation plan is required because the parties involved in the project presently or in future have a clear understanding about the details of the system and its workings. An implementation plan should include the following: Pre recruitment process Recruitment strategies Selection strategies Post selection process Training and development A detailed description of the above implementation plan is given below: Pre recruitment process: prior to the commencement of recruitment process is the process of pre recruitment. There are various stages in the process of pre recruitment: Review of needs: here the relevant manager conducts a review of current positions which takes into account the current important issues like funding, business needs etc. Developing a good selection criterion: The documentation should be clear about the required or preferred areas of focus and responsibilities of positions. Here the skills, behaviors, knowledge and experience form the basis of the selection criteria. Developing a good selection criterion is essential as these provide the standards against which the selection panel assessed the merit of candidates and determines selection. Determination of recruitment strategies: The manager determines the best strategy for filling the position lying vacant and obtaining right candidates. Here an assessment of the vacant positions is done by the manager to determine the current and future needs for the positions. Based on this assessment the positions are determined as full time permanent, fixed term employment, temporary and casual. Position description: All the positions in an organization have designation description. Description is made to reflect the present and future requirements of a company. The position description is made a part of the recruitment process. Recruitment method: Many recruitments methods are considered before the adoption of the actual recruitment method. Here a selection panel is also established. Recruitment strategies: This is the second stage in the process of implementing a plan. The recruitment strategies phase includes: Choice of advertising: in all instances, advertising is placed inviting the applicants. There are a number of factors taken into consideration while preparing a job advertisement like choice of newspapers, journals etc., timing of applications, and style of wording of advertising. Additional strategies: a successful recruitment process uses various strategies to attract and recruit high quality candidates. In addition to simply place an advertisement a manager may even consider using networks to identify potential candidates, use outside expertise or may even develop a small group to consider all the options for recruitment activities. Selection strategies: the third stage consists of short listing the candidates, reference checks, background investigations and making the actual selection decisions. Here the manager interviews the final candidates, make final selection decisions and also does the background investigations of the short listed candidates. Here they also have to arrange for physical examinations from the short listed candidates. Post selection process: in the post selection process the manager has to draft an offer of employment, issue an offer letter to the selected candidates. They also have to communicate with candidates and maintain their records and reports. The manager also has to place and assign new employees and co ordinate follow up of new employees. Here the manager is also responsible for developing an effective induction plan. Training and development: Training and development of all employees is important to the company’s success. So here the manager will first look into the elements of job performance like nature of work, length of work etc and then would look into the characteristics of his employees like ability, motivation, intelligence level, physical skills, educational background and then try to match them accordingly. The training program imparts the requisite skills to the employees. For example in the case of the waste water plant, the training can be given on site assessment, soil analysis, environmental health impact evaluation etc. Forms designed to gather feedback Now evaluation of a training program is very much required because it helps in demonstrating the benefits that have accrued from the money spent on training activities, enable the management to gather information about their employees and divert their resources to areas which will yield in the best possible return on investments. Answer: ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Now evaluation can be done in many other ways too: Evaluation can be done by measuring reaction Evaluation can be done by measuring learning Evaluation can be done by measuring behavior Evaluation can be done by measuring results Examples of materials which are used to enhance the organizations image in the wider community Now since XYZ company is inducting 500 new employees so there is increase in the job opportunities for the people. This in turn would increase their living standards. Again other subsidiary business will grow there. Hence XYZ Company will be helping in the growth of the city as whole. Now the selected candidates also goes through the training process which will help the employees to get better insight of the company’s objective and how it converges to their responsibility. And hence they will become more committed towards their responsibility and serve the organization and community better. Benefits to stakeholders There will be environmental benefits to the stakeholders. The safe and reliable treatment of wastewater will protect the environment and help in keeping the environment clean. The safe and reliable collection of wastewater and treatment of it before using it again would ensure that everyone stays healthy. And this can only be done if there is proper training given to the new employees and they perform their duties well. Again there will be economic benefits to the stakeholders. This system will be supplied at a cost and the company will also pay to its employees. Risk assessment of the wastewater project There can be risk of loss of service through pipelines leakages pump station failures. So the employees have to be given proper training to overcome this problem. Again there can be a problem if the guidelines are not followed stringently and it can lead to a lot of legal problems as well as the health problems. So the employees will have to given training also about the general rules and regulations in this field. A performance plan (for a team member) Inadequate or poor performance can have a number of negative impacts on individuals and teams. So a manager may experience decrease in team productivity and unity and it will also lead to an increase in conflicts and dissatisfaction. A manager must ensure that proper performance plans are made for both team and team members. He should also ensure that the team with members develop new skills or hone onto the existing one in accordance to the requirement. The performance plan is a detailed plan used for identifying desired performance levels, how it can be achieved, provide the required direction and guidance and measure the results. So individual performance plans should be planned in such a way that it aligns with the organization’s overall objectives. Individual performance plan An individual performance plan includes Descriptions and evidences of performance issues: here a detailed description is given which highlights the area where there is need of improvement. For example if the employee is tardy in his job then it would be the manager’s duty to improve onto this area of his by proper training. Expected performance goals: here the manager makes the employee understand what is expected of him and set goals for him. Target dates: this indicates a particular date by which the employee must accomplish the expected goal which was set by his manager. Clear statements of consequences: here the manager emphasizes on the consequences of failing to achieve the stated goals to his employees. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Key performance indicators help a company to realize its objective in a more efficient manner. KPIs depend on organizations. It selected in such a fashion that it reflects the organization goals. Like in the case of wastewater project the KPIs can be increasing the community satisfaction with continuous and better service (Severn Trent Annual Report and Accounts 2008) As the business grows, it becomes important to know which elements perform most effectively or most badly and KPIs enables to measure performance against targets, objectively. It helps in tracking productivity and effectiveness, measure performances against targets and also measures productivity. Performance targets are set in first and then KPIs are used to monitor the progress of these targets (Pennon Group Plc n.d.). Conclusion A manager has to play a crucial role. With his able leadership and guidance he helps both the organization as well as the new employees. He has to see to the facts that all the plans are well executed, at the same time he also has to maintain and boost the morale of his team members.
