Air Traffic Control Air Traffic Control The system for controlling air traffic in the country has been reliable but its efficiency is still questionable. This has raised the issue of the replacement of the current system. Some people in the Congress for instance Bill Shuster want the government to leave the issue of controlling air traffic to the private sector. Other associates in the Aviation Industry like Joshua Schank and Robert Poole have also raised concerns over the ability of the Federal Aviation Administration to efficiently control air traffic (Naylor, 2015).

The current air-traffic control system is radar based. The radar-based systems are inefficient while dealing with heavy air traffic like it is the case in New York City. Efforts have been advanced to replace the radar system with a new system called NextGen which uses the concept of GPS satellites for its operation. The FAA has been slow in implementing the new system of air traffic control and this has raised even more complains. The vice president of Airlines for America is of the opinion that for the NextGen project to be achieved faster the task of controlling air traffic should be in the hands of an organization that is free of matters to do with politics and the bureaucracy associated with the government.

The individuals and organizations opposed to the control of air traffic by the FAA are aware that the process of setting up a new organization to take FAA’s position is a complicated task. However, they say that parameters for achieving this change are in existence. In response to the issues raised, the FAA has defended itself on grounds that it is in the process of successfully implementing NextGen. Democratic Representative Rick Larsen is also in support of FAA. ReferencesNaylor, Brian. April 21, 2015.
