Paper Discussing Critical Success Factors of Implementing Management Information System Introduction The technology is not going to create success on its own, and therefore, one can infer that the managers have to keep their senses intact, and they must never relax and become lazy in terms of doing their jobs because the technology is a means of doing their jobs, but it is never going to do their work for them. The top management has to support the implementation of information technology in order to make the transition smoother, and the process less bumpy along the way (Plant and Willcocks, 65). The team must know what they are doing and what the objectives of their current project are. The project management skills are critical towards the objective of implementing Enterprise Resource Planning is a subunit of Management Information System because the former systems will help the larger mechanism of MIS regarding provision of help to managers in the process of making decisions. The whole purpose of MIS is to aid the managerial teams in the undertaking of profitable projects, minimizing risks, and costs as well. The whole umbrella of MIS stands because the technology will help the managers in taking efficient and effective decisions. The steering committee is going to create convergence in the effort of team that is working for implementation of technology in the company because they have to keep the whole project aligned with the objectives of the endeavor. The human resource management is going to create favorable environment for the change so that the employees can know what is going on in the organization, and how and when their roles and responsibilities will change in the light of new developments. The change management’s literature has to be implemented in great detail in order to bring any sort of technological up-gradation in the company.
The company A went through a rapid change of technical nature because they had to streamline their operations with those of other departments, and because of this reason, the change warranted itself on its own. The management had to follow the flow of things in this regard. They had not made any kind of tough decisions during the process as well. The problem that the organization has to manage was semi-structured in nature, and therefore, its solution was relatively easy to find as well.
The company B has faced a completely different dilemma, and they need to implement the technology at a global level. The previous company had to enter and manage the process that was structured and predictable. However, the current company had to take painful decisions during the implementation of the project that was planned to deliver the company with technological development (Plant and Willcocks, 67). The global integration needed the company to invest in the communicational infrastructure. The management’s ability and power remains the defining attribute of the projects in the both cases, but the latter case has pressed on that need more the former one, and in this way, the need to have effective teamwork grew along with all other ones.
