Over the years, scholars in business have devised various project scheduling techniques that can assist entities to accomplish the above-stated objectives. Approaches such as the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) and Critical Path Method (CPM). These techniques were both designed in the mid-fifties, and they use project networks to aid in scheduling the activities of the project. As learned earlier in the course, project networks are flow charts or graphs that depict the order in which the terminal elements of the project are to be done by highlighting the terminal elements as well as their dependencies. Although there has been a blurring distinction between the two techniques over the recent years, PERT stands an approach that takes the completion time of the project’s activities as random. The two approaches need the modeler to recognize a project’s activities and precedence association. This pertains highlighting a set of direct predecessors for every activity. Direct predecessors to an activity are the jobs that a business must undertake just before the commencement of the activity (Lawrence & Pasternack, 2002). ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

...9 September General Activities S Curve Manpower Utilization Chart Thereare several ways that can be done in order to reduce the peaks of manpower. First, jobs that can be combined together particularly during the excavation phase can be carried out in order to reduce the number of workers. As observed, the whole project duration is 40 days; so workers are given ample time to stretch the duration of a certain task. In other words, if these workers can be re-hired for another task, in a fixed pay, then the potential for reducing the peak of manpower is very high. And this is apart from the fact that project cost is curbed significantly. Another way is to extend the deadline of the project....

...of the of the overall project duration. (Moselhi & Rayes 1993) Further in the case of repetitive projects, it is possible to generate and evaluate optimal construction plans that minimize project duration and maximize crew work continuity (Hyari 2006, pp. Abstract). This is possible through developing workable schedules for repetitive projects, practical construction plans and establishing ideal tradeoffs between the duration of the project and work crew continuity. (Hyari 2006) Mathematical models can be worked even in the case of non-repetitive projects factoring in such variables as repetitive and...

CPU scheduling

...CPU scheduling To understand CPU scheduling it is essential to know the concept of process management. All modern computers can do several things at the same time. While running a user program, a computer can also be reading from a disk and outputting text to a screen or printer. In a multiprogramming system, the CPU also switches from program to program, running each for tens or hundreds of milliseconds. While, strictly speaking, at any instant of time, the CPU is running only one program, in the course of 1 second, it may work on several programs, thus giving the users the illusion of parallelism. Sometimes people speak of pseudoparallelism in this context, to contrast it with the true hardware...
