Management Paper (Leadership) SUMMARY Leadership has emerged as a decisive factor for rendering management success in the modern day organizational context. The skills executed by leaders to manage the employees in the workplace can ensure greater producitvity and profitbility for the organization. Leadership requires to boast of certain pertinent skills to deal with day-to-day challenges within the organizational premises. Consequently, a leader needs to adapt in keeping with changing organisational requirements to ensure that his/her followers are able to keep a track of the changing pragadigm to ascrtain long-term organizational success. DEFINITION OF LEADERSHIP Leadership is the process of motivating the actions of the people or a group in order to achieve the set of goals. There are five vital points that a leader must consider to become a successful leader wherein a leader must develop the trust and reliability of its followers. Moreover, the leader should also have the quality of sharing its vision which is quite clear and concise. A leader also must have a good interpersonal expertise of training, mentoring, interacting and listening. A leader should be responsible enough and liable for the decisions made. Moreover, the leader must have an outlook of accomplishing the desired goals by controlling each and every aspect of goal attainment and moving towards the right path (MasterClassManagement.com, “Five Key Points to Strong Leadership (thus a Great Manager)”). It has been viewed that both leaders and managers have different qualities. Leaders have an active outlook towards the attainment of goals while managers have a passive outlook. Leaders usually undergo through risk when they understand that the opportunities are prospective but managers have the tendency of avoiding risk (Zaleznik, “Managers and Leaders Are They Different?”). PERSONAL SKILLS/WEAKNESSES Steve Jobs has been considered to be one of the most successful leaders in the modern time. He had practiced such leadership that entirely changed the position of Apple Inc. which is regarded as one of the most valuable companies in the present era. As the time passed, I considered him as my role model whose leadership characters had a little similarity with my characteristics of leadership. Consequently, alike my role model, I also found out that I possess certain key strengths and weaknesses within my leadership capabilities. Thus, I revealed the strengths of my leadership quality wherein I found out that I have good communication skills both written and verbally. It has also been found out that I have good multi-tasking abilities wherein I can complete multiple tasks at a given time.It is also determined that I possess strong interactive skills wherein I can interact with every kind of people quite easily and try to understand them. Moreover, I have a strong analytical background which enables me to solve problems very quickly and develop multiple solutions to the problems that arise at the particular situation. However, I find it very difficult to express myself in front of a huge crowd as I get a little nervous and feel uncomfortable within such a gathering. Besides, I research a lot for the assignments provided to me to ensure that the projects are completed effectively which in turn at times consumes a lot of time becauseof which I at times get rushed at the final juscture to complete my assigned responsibilities. Contextually, I at times get emptionally driven towards taking a decision or judgement because of certain allegories associated with it which might not be a prudcent approach to become a successgul leader. DESCRIPTION OF LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE A group of five members including me was assigned with a task of preparing a group project wherein I was selected as a group leader. As a group leader, I had a good experience with my team members as they were very supportive and always wanted to seek guidance. Thus, I interacted with my team members and asked every member of the team to be responsible for the project to avoid its failure. I made them understand that without responsibility the project will not get completed in the deadlines given. Subsequently, our team decided to organise the project by starting it early and structuring the outline of the project which helped us in allocating the time appropriately and provided the initiative to complete the project before the deadline. Our activity included collecting the information from the library books to get a substantial knowledge of the given project and also using the internet which helped us in retrieving information on the topic given in the project. The main role given to me was to act as a motivational leader within the group to guide them to complete the project successfully. I used my interactive skills in the best way to understand the team members and their perception regarding the project. I found out that the team members were very interested and had a positive attitude towards the project. When the project was completed, it was derived that it was quite successful and the result was very positive as it met the required standards. LEADERSHIP ACTIVITY/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE USED As a group leader, I used my communication skills to the best effect in order to organise my team to be result oriented. Then, I divided the acivities within the team members based upon their strengths. I used my leadership skills to classify the activities in a project wherein I assigned two members to do research and I asked the other two members to collect data through library books. The knowledge used in the project was basically generated through the internet. I also made sure that the members were comfortable with their assigned tasks and frequently reminded them about the deadline date. It was observed that after assigning the task for the group members, they could find out the alternatives and take decisions for the project. The memebrs in the group became more responsible and provided an active participation to complete the project before the given deadline. I also found out that each member was unique in their nature and provided a major contribution and value in the team. Owing to the fact the team was result oriented, the final project met the requirements and the standards as per the expectation. In the course of attaining our desired success, I as a leader primairly concentrated on ensuring that each team member remains focused towards their assigned task which eventually was the decisive factor in the derived succes. SUMMARY Thus, it can be concluded that leadership is a very impotant constituent of life which is required to achieve the desired goals. A leader should have the quality of developing utmost trust and dependability, should possess effective communication skills and should be accountable after taking the decision. However, the quality of the leader differs from a manager as the leader has the tendency to undertake risks to get positive results but the manager is ususlly a person who avoids to take risks. During the course of the assignment wherein I was selected as the group leader, I found out that I have a set of strengths and weaknesses in my leadership quality. In keeping with my experience as the group leader, the knowledge of the team members was very productive which helped in successful completion of the project. In addition, I could use my skills and expertise to provide proper guidance to the team members which finally resulted in meeting the standards for the project.
