Evidence Supporting the Premise that the Culture Created at Nike by Mark Parker is Sustainable and Ethical According to the chief executive of Nike, sustainability is the key element for transformation in the company and the world market. Therefore, there is need to innovate through a mix of specific management measures and strategic principles. Nike is attempting to become transparent concerning its sustainability performance, and it is more than willing to share its ideas. This can be supported by its recent decision to make public the formula of its environmentally preferred rubber. Nike has also shared its water-assessment tool, and most of the industry bodies now have access to the tool. In doing this, it is evident that the company upholds sustainability and good faith.
There are a number of principles upon which Nike hopes to build its foundation (Balch, 2012). These principles include developing a portfolio of sustainable materials, scaling and prototyping sustainable manufacturing and sourcing models, developing digital services revenue, and driving market transformation (Balch, 2012). It is important to note that the latest reports by Nike put more emphasis on environmental sustainability. This is in line with the company’s vision of attaining zero-waste in its supply chain and making materials and products that can be constantly reused. In Nike, human rights and labor continue to be its top priority and a worry to its corporate culture. Dealing with these issues and other issues such as maintaining quality is not an easy task, and thus, Nike has found one potential solution. The solution is to collaborate with other brands on factory audits and working with its competitors in developing solutions for labor issues and standardized costs (Connor, 2010).
