The specialization allows each department to focus on one task, allowing the company to work faster. Some of the key departments in a company may be the finance department or the sales department.
Chain of command is how management delegates authority to individuals throughout a workplace (Chain of Command). Instead of one manager delegating tasks, department managers can give instructions as they see fit. A normal chain of command would have the president at the top, followed by the vice-president, and so on.
The span of control is the number of employees that a manager has under his or her control at one time. Department managers would have a span of control over the employees for who they are responsible.
Centralization is the process where key decisions are taken only by top management. On the other hand, decentralization places trust in employees lower down the food chain and allow them to make decisions for themselves.
