Huawei Technologies Co: Globalizing through Innovation In the world of technology today, the mention of the name Huawei technology will sound as familiar as Coke. Perhaps this is because of the services that the company offers, the quality of its products or still because of the news that the company has made in the last few years (Chao, 2011). With this information and reputation one can safely say that the company is one to reckon with. The company has taken a bigger step towards globalization through its innovative ideas. This brief analysis based on the case of ‘globalization through innovation’ will focus on the profile of Huawei Company, counterparty debates, as well as other news making technological management issues such as outsourcing, alliances and so on. Huawei is a Chinese company that specializes in the technological, software and electronics industry. It is a company that is about two decades old which started as a distributor of Telcom equipment in the late 1980’s. By the early90’s it had not only been incorporated in to the private companies club but also had been able to incent the CDMA and UTMS technologies that are currently being used in the wireless internet connectivity through hardware such as modems (Huawei ,2011). One can state that based on the happenings in and out of the company, the management was focusing on the setting of the base in the Chinese market. By the beginning of the new millennium it was clear that the company was setting its foot in the global market with an estimated report of about 128 million US dollars in that year alone. In a couple of years thereafter the company expanded to other high level markets such as the European, African and the American markets through amalgamations, partnerships and other business arrangements with domestic companies. One aspect of innovation that the company has employed in the global success is through the collaborations with local specialists of countries or regions that it has interest on. This guarantees customized services and product s for those particular markets hence ensuring that there is not only profits increase but also value addition according to Kan, (2011). Some of the continental companies that the firm has collaborated with include, Motorola, IBM, Intel and Microsoft which specialize in the manufacturing of computer hardware and software. Huawei has also collaborated with other electronic companies such as NEC and Phillips to form management alliances. Although this is a good step into globalization, there are concerns which are going to be addressed later. The biggest merit that Huawei has realized through the globalization of its industries includes the human resource advantage from all over the world. By this it means that the company is able to continually improve its innovation to this day through new ideas generated by local network developers, engineers as well as executives and marketers. In this world of competition, the companies that have the best approach to consumer-solution strategy are the ions which score highly (Huawei, 2011). Two decades later technological analysis seems to place the company in the same path because of its innovative approach. The issue of globalization also has made the company able to outsource its foreign obligations to the companies in those countries. Such companies such as Orange and T-mobile have taken the obligation of not only partnering with the company but also doing part of the obligations that are supposed to be carried out by the company (Carr, 2011). For the company such as these to be able to have a global impact it is true that some factors have played a big role in the development. Some of these factors include a globalized customer who needs technology to operate, attractive markets and availability of capital. These factors have played a big role in establishing the company as one of the most successful Chinese companies operating abroad. However, with the fairy tale story of the success and continued positive impact of technology be the company; there have been some issues and concern about the company. First, some people from various quarters have always felt that the company would be on the path to losing its cultural identity and domestic market’s share (Lewis, 2007). The issues have need raised by various Chinese politicians as well as technological observers that the company may risk being overtaken by other domestic firms as it focuses more internationally than the local market. As an independent thinker, one may say that these predictions may be true in the medium and long terms because of the fact that there will be international saturation of the products and unseen competition. The other issue that the company has faced in the recent and even present times is the issue of political and economical interference as Kan (2011) shows it. This is because of the Chinese philosophies as well as political ideologies. The most recent news being the controversial acquisition of the American owned 3leaf Company which has raised eyebrows. News has it that the company had paid up an amount of money to acquire specific assets from the company but it was restricted because of news of ‘national security’ issues. This however was revoked and further sanctions were put which the company has to oblige. This and many more of the issues pose challenges for the company which seeks to expand on the global platform. Despite all of those, the company continues to sell itself well in the international market. The future might as well be good for the company, In conclusion it is clear that the company has taken a bigger step towards globalization through its innovative ideas. This brief analysis which was based on the case of ‘globalization through innovation’ has focused on the profile of Huawei Company, debates and concerns about the future and the identity of the company, as well as other news making technological management issues such as outsourcing of its obligations to other companies in the abroad markets,, alliances and collaborations with other companies as well as the challenges that are being faced by the company.
