Review of What Management Is1.1 IntroductionManagement has been described in broader concept by various writers. Every profession needs training such as physicians have to study in medical schools before treating patients. To deal with a case, attorneys have to pass the bar. So training is required to start any profession. But in management terms, business persons can start work without having training in business schools. However this doesn’t mean that they are perfect, they do lack fundamental management principles.

To overcome with this shortage different writers have emphasized on what a manger should do, what qualities one should have to become a manger and how to manage effectively. This paper mainly focuses on the writing of two major research writers in relation to management i.e. Joan Magretta and Mintzberg who have highlighted this issue in their own way. 1.2 Management via Joan MagrettaManagement has been the key after innovation for success in the past as well as present. Its contains such principles which are jargon-free.

She studied how different people work together and emphasized all ideas for effective management should be transmitted into action to get better performance. This theory was supported on the basis of case studies considering dell, ford hospitals etc. only such people should be hired in the organization who have capabilities to deal with challenging situations. Management is not only used in business, nowadays management is required in every work. For instance if one have make choice in any decision or it is relate to the community, one should firstly know the definition of management an d should also identify both good as well as bad aspects.

In organization managers have limited resources they should be able to manage those in accordance with the requirement. In order to become a manger no training is needed i.e. normally many managers does not possess any formal diploma in management, rather a diploma doesn’t prove that a person is a good manager (Magretta Joan 15). 1.3 Management via MintzbergMinzberg does not define management on the basis of one or two theories of discipline, it includes everything virtually done by mangers.

He has mainly focused on a belief that:Management is all about using individuals skills in a system, rather systems should not be applied to people.Managers work efficiently only because they have work pressure because of which they prefer to work in teams, find quick solution to the problems and try to make effective decision in a short time. To be a manager is the most critical job as compared to other professions. Managers are the sole person who helps us identify whether social institutions are serving us properly or not.

So one should band the tradition of thinking of a managerial work, in spite should adopt it in practice so that difficult problems can be solved and performance can be improved further (Mintzberg Henry 165). 1.4 ConclusionToday organizations are successful only because of management discipline. Almost major part of business is carried out by large organizations having good management systems (Mintzberg Henry 70). But now, as the generation keep on changing they are almost forgetting that the basis of these large organizations are the fundamental principles of management and discipline.
