The Ethical Conduct within AIM and ECA Executive Summary This research study aims at identifying the ethical conduct being practiced within AIM and ECA. This study has further assisted in deriving information regarding the ethical practices being executed within the group. Furthermore, it also reveals about unethical practice that emerges from non-adherence of ethical conducts. AIM’s ethical standard focuses on providing skilled managers. Wherein, ECA’s behavioral standard focuses on mitigating the interest and issues pertaining to children and the families. The findings from the study have further stated that there are certain similarities and dissimilarities of ethical codes within AIM and ECA. On a long-run basis, if the employers and the employees consistently don’t follow the code of business standard, the organizations cannot prosper. Differentiated professions entail various ethical codes and professional behavioral standard. In this regard, two such professions i.e. Australian Institute of Management (AIM) and Early Childhood Australia has been considered in this essay. These professions have been considered for deriving information regarding ethical conduct and behavioral standard practiced within it. The AIM is a non-profit entity, which promotes the development of education and the learning’s within the field of management along with leadership. Furthermore, the aforementioned aim of AIM is to foster development within industry, government and the commerce. The mission of AIM is to accelerate the excellence of management and the leadership skills by promoting and developing the professions at differentiated levels. Moreover, the vision of the institute is to develop skilled managers for societal development Early Childhood Australia (ECA) ensures the quality, equity and the social justices related to issues pertaining to education and children’s care from birth till the age of eight years. This particular profession inculcates certain values such as; rights of the children, openness and honesty and societal inclusion of children among others (Early Childhood Australia, 2013). This essay intends to explain the code of professional behavior within AIM and ECA. Furthermore, the essay will reflect about the importance of ethics and professional conduct within the workplace. Reflective view on the ethical and unethical behavior in the light of AIM and ECA will be inculcated within this essay. Comparison and contrast between the ethical code of AIM and ECA will also be a part of this essay. Discussion Importance Of Codes Of Ethics Within Workplace The workplace ethics is often defined as “To conform to accepted and especially professional standard of conduct”. The acceptable set of behavior within an organization is termed as the code of conduct. It aims to encourage a higher standard of practice within an organization. The code of conduct assists the employees in attaining development within the organization through their working efficiency (Baker, 2006; Code of Conduct, n.d.).This section intends to explain about the importance of ethical code within AIM and ECA. AIM being a learning institute need to adhere with strict ethical conduct for an overall development. AIM’s ethical conduct represents a set of procedures that aims at accelerated management skills and its ethical role within an organization. Members of AIM need to discharge their responsibility with immense integrity. Correspondingly, the members observe and adhere with the standard mentioned within ‘Good management Practice’ that is determined by AIM on regular basis. Furthermore, the ethical code of AIM reflects about avoiding of misuse of the authority for any personal gain. It is necessary for the members to adhere with Australian laws to maintain a strict ethical code and professional behavior within the work culture. AIM prepares the participants as future managers to deal with critical situations within the workplace. AIM’s ethical code and the professional standard help the managers to effectively manage the available resources. Moreover, it also ensures the responsibility of the managers to keep the information confidential that comes to them within the working process. The ethical code of AIM ensures a fair treatment by the managers for the employees within the organization. The importance of ethical conduct of AIM is to fulfill the aforementioned factors successfully among others. Ethical code of ECA provides its members certain responsibilities to be adhered within the organization. ECA inculcate defined ethical codes in relation to children’s, families, communities and employer among others. Ethical code and the professional standard of ECA assist its employees to create a safe and a healthy environment for the growth and the development of the children. Furthermore, ethical conduct of this organization also prepares its professionals to maintain the privacy of the families of the children associated with ECA. The most important ethical behavior of the employees of ECA is to make sure that the children are not discriminated in terms of gender, caste, nationality or the religion. Considering, all the aforementioned aspect, it can be ascertained that these preset ethical conduct and professional standard of ECA ensures effective accomplishment of organizational objectives (Bredeson & Goree, 2011; Hearst Communications, 2013). Inference of Ethical and Professional Conduct In Workplace In my view, ethical codes and the professional conduct play a vital role in the workplace. In light of the ethical codes mentioned in AIM and ECA, it has been observed by me that application of behavioral standard and ethical code assisted these particular professional groups to accomplish their desired objectives. Code of ethics encourages the members of both the professions to understand their sense of responsibilities and work accordingly (Santa Clara University, 2012). As per my understanding, AIM prepares competent managers, which requires strict ethical values to be endured by these mangers. The AIM ethical code assists the managers to fulfill their duties with high concentration and dedication which in turn proves to be beneficial for both the managers and the institute. In similar manner the professional codes in ECA prepares its members to deliver best quality care and education to the children, society and employer among others. The ethical guidelines of ECA encourage its members to consider the children as one of the major citizens of the nation. By analyzing all the ethical performances conducted by the members of both the professions, I believe that ethics and the professional standard are important within the workplace for accomplishment of organizational objectives (Center for Professional Responsibility, 2007; Santa Clara University, 2012). Ethical Behavior within AIM and ECA According to me, both AIM and the ECA had maintained their code of ethics in an effective manner. They have ensured their responsibilities abiding all ethical codes and professional standard within these organizations. The ethical behavior in AIM can be well judged with the help of a citation. One of the ethical codes of AIM depicts the confidentiality of information received by the managers. In this context, it states that it is the prior responsibility of the managers to keep the information confidential. This can be considered as an important ethical code, as the leakage of confidential matters and information related to business and personal matters can lead to havoc within the organization (Ebbeck & Waniganayake, 2002). Furthermore, optimum utilization of the available resources by the mangers depicts another ethical code defined within the guidelines of AIM. It is the responsibility of the managers to utilize the resources productively to foster cost effectiveness within the organization. This can be further explained with the help of a citation i.e. if AIM’s professionals do not utilize their learning resources effectively, the institute will fail to provide skilled and efficient managers. Ethical standard and professional conduct of ECA ensures employer’s compliance with the rules, policies and standard of workplace. This ethical code assures the employer’s interest to mitigate the critical matters of children and the families. For example, in an organization, if the employer looks towards the attainment of his/her personal goals, it will suppress the interest of employees, which will create a chaos within the organization. Additionally, this scenario will create a hurdle in overall growth of the organization. Unethical Behavior in the AIM and the ECA During the study of the AIM and the ECA, I came across certain ethical codes which can turn out to be unethical if not handled properly. Avoidance of the misuse of power of mangers for their own personal gain represents an ethical code within AIM. In my view, if mangers misuse their power for personal benefit, it will create a chaotic situation within the organization. As mentioned earlier, the managers are entitled to maintain the confidentiality of the organization, which also comes under the purview of their power. For instance, the misuse of power by higher authorities develops an unethical environment within the organization. In order to develop the organization, objectives of the employees and the mangers must align together to accomplish organizational goals. Another citation explains about the managers getting involved in the corrupt activities within the organization (Australian Institute of Management, 2013). If the corrupt activities are encouraged and are not curtailed down on immediate effect, it will direct the subordinates a wrong path to follow. The corrupt activities will adversely affect the company’s reputation and its business activities. The employees of ECA are allotted with the duty of assuring the rights of the children and their families. If the families are not provided with adequate requirements, they would be unable to take proper care of the child. Another major instance of unethical behavior is the discrimination among the child in relation to caste, gender, nationality or the religion. It has grown to be a serious problem in recent scenario. It creates a negative impact on the children and the families. The reputation of the organization is hampered to a large extent by all these activities thus, it can be affirmed that non adherence to the ethical standard mentioned within the professional groups will lead to practice of unethical conduct (Australian Institute of Management, 2013; Early Childhood Australia, 2013; Government of South Australia, 2012). Comparison and Contrast of Ethical codes of AIM and ECA As accessed above, it can be observed that there lie certain comparisons and contrasts of ethical conduct and professional standard within AIM and ECA. Considering, the ethical codes of AIM, it inculcates guidelines that reflect about mitigating the interest of human resource. The behavioral standard of AIM takes into account the ethical practices required to develop skilled mangers. Furthermore, AIM’s ethical code entails the avoidance of corrupt practices to ensure an ethical environment within the organization. AIM’s code ethics believes in fair treatment and equity among the members. As compared to the ethical codes of AIM, ECA also follows the similar codes for mitigating the interest of children and the families by avoiding any kind of discrimination among the differentiated races. AIM executes the affirmed policies, procedures and regulations to monitor the learning of the future mangers. In this context, it assures an accelerated development of skilled mangers by the institute. In contrast to AIM, the procedures, rules and policies followed by ECA is to mitigate the interest and issues of children and the families. ECA looks after the societal issues related to the interest of the aforementioned group. Conclusion As seen from the aforesaid study, importance and need of ethical codes and behavioral conduct are clear. Ethical codes of AIM and ECA have been explained to get an insight of ethical codes being practiced within these professional groups. Additionally, it has been ascertained that diversified professions practice different ethical codes, which has explored by this essay. AIM incorporates the ethical codes to ensure skilled managers thorough proper development. Wherein ECA incorporates ethical codes to mitigate the interest and the issues of children and families. Furthermore, the essay also reflects about the similarities and dissimilarities pertaining within the two professional groups. The study has also reviewed the ethical and unethical behavior in context of the AIM and ECA. Thus, ethical code within any organization helps in mitigation the business objectives effectively.
