The firm needs to monitor and improve its quality management by putting in place a total quality management process. Current situation The following are some of the areas that are of concern to the BJB’s TQM. BJB does not involve employees in its total quality management. BJB does not have a way to involve consumers to improve its product quality. There are no repetitive processes to make sure that the production system is continually improved to increase quality and reduce costs For the BJB to be able to access the new market and increase its market segment, it needs to be able to produce high quality products across its product range. The products are a range of car radios for different kinds of cars. Accessing the new market will need a solid Total Quality Management System that will improve the production and increase quality of the products produced by the firm. Proposed total quality management The proposed TQM for BJB will consider the following factors: New Market BJB is trying to access new markets, and to do this it has to have products that are competitive in terms of their quality. The fact that BJB is trying to access new markets also means that the firm has to know not only how to increase the quality but also how to minimize costs so as to use cost advantage to sell at lower prices. The products produced by BJB are not used directly by the consumers, but have to be used along with other products (i.e. vehicles), and BJB needs to consider this in planning its TQM. In this regard, BJB’s Total Quality Management has to ensure that it is will be synchronized with the manufacturers of motor vehicles. This will be useful in making sure that the products of BJB are compatible with the products of all the car manufacturers, and this will be important because without this compatibility, there can be no market for the BJB’s products. The TQM Process management The process will be monitored to make sure that there are no bottlenecks that may make the system less efficient. BJB should be professionally responsible in making sure that the manufacturing process is incrementally improved every month, to make sure that all inefficiencies are eliminated. This will be important in making sure that the system and the cost of production are maintained at a minimum low, as well as reducing the chance of components in a single point, which would lead to some of the components breaking down, and thus affecting the quality of the end product (Foster, 2007). This will be achieved by monitoring the process at each stage to see how improvements can be made. Different processes will also be tried to see which process will be the most efficient in terms of cost and time. Managing the quality of the products BJB will be required to work with all stakeholders, including employees, shareholders, consumers, suppliers and partners (the car manufacturers), to ensure that quality of the products is maintained and increased with time. Stakeholders contribute to the development of a good TQM because either they are involved in the production of the products or they are the consumers. The stakeholders will play their roles as follows: Employees To motivate employees towards doing quality work, BJB will adopt a new work method and avoid the traditional 8:00 to 5:00 job structure. BJB should adopt the ROWE model to manage its human resource. ROWE is a human resource management approach introduced by managers at Best Buy, and the initials stand for Result Oriented Work Environment. Using this model, the employees will be rewarded according to how much work they have done and according to the level of quality of their work. This will motivate the employees to make sure that they are able to produce quality work towards achieving quality and efficiency. Shareholders As Alex (2011) puts it, although shareholders play a minimal role in the process of implementing a TQM process, it will also be important to involve them since they are the capital owners. Implementing TQM can be a very costly process, and there is a need for the management team to make sure that the shareholders are okay with their idea. The Executive management The executive management will be useful in the implementation of TQM, because at the end of the day, they will be the ones approving and providing leadership to implement the project. Consumers The consumers will be asked for feedback on the products and what can be improved, removed or added. This will be added to the production system to ensure that the needs of the consumers are met. This will be done through modifying the manufacturing system to make it possible to produce the kind of products that the consumers are asking for. For instance, if the consumers ask for a certain feature of the product to be improved or added, the system will be modified to make this possible. To acquire this information from the consumers, data collection will be done by carrying out sample studies from the public. Partners BJB will have to work with the motor vehicles, to make sure that their products are compatible with each other’s products. Advantages of the Total Quality Management to BJB This TQM will make it possible for BJB to be able to manage its production costs and reduce them to the minimum. This will make it possible for the BJB to be able to access new markets, by providing competitively priced high quality goods. By working closely with the car manufacturers, BJB will avoid a situation where it could end up producing products that are not compatible with the cars produced by manufacturers. This would lead to a big loss and avoiding such a situation is very important for the future of BJB. BJB will be able to have a closer relationship with the consumer of its products, and this is an important factor because in the modern day competitive market, being able to retain a close relationship with the customer is a great way to avoid the customers from being stolen by competitors. Overall, the BJB will be able to produce high quality products that are acceptable by the market. This will be important for the image of the firm in the long run in the market. The role of leadership In any project, leadership is needed to provide direction and motivation of the team leaders. At the same time, the leaders will be acting as the mediators whenever there is a conflict between or among the team members. Leaders are also important in sourcing out any necessary requirements and resources that the project will need such as funds, human resources and equipments. The leaders will also be the connection between the project management team and the outside world, such as the partners outside the business. For instance, in the BJB TQM, the leaders will provide the link between the project team and the car manufacturers to make sure that the team is able to work together. References Alex, K. (2011).
