The paper tells that globalisation changes not only the way people live, but also the way in which they communicate. At the same time, it creates intercultural communication challenges for both multicultural workforces and the organisations in business environment. Aside from language proficiency, working effectively with a diverse cultural workforce requires mutual tolerance and understanding between people, and this is especially essential for the non-English speaking organisations. Keeping this in mind, the purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between the diverse cultures and intercultural communication in non-English speaking organisations, and hence determine the cultural differences that could impede communication between co-workers from various cultural backgrounds.
At this stage of the research, the researcher structures the data collection by adapting the questionnaire instrument. As a result of increased intercultural contact and interdependence, people all around the world have been forced to ‘rethink’ intercultural communication in order to acquire effective intercultural communication competence. Considering the ever-increasing interest in intercultural communication research in multicultural organizations, Lauring points out that “there are also substantial organizational problems related to managing cultural diversity, which need to be overcome in order for diversity to be a useful asset”.
These opinions present the fact that intercultural communication is one of the main issues that multinational organisations are facing today. Therefore, the research questions have been designed with the aim of tackling those issues and seeking answers. In conformance with the aims of the study, six research questions emerged. Below are the six summarized research questions (Rq): Rq1 How do multicultural workforces communicate effectively within a non-English speaking organization both verbally and nonverbally?
Rq2 Is there a statistically significant relationship between psychological factors and communication behaviours of the multicultural workforce in multicultural organizations? Rq3 What are the major challenges that non-English speaking organisations face when communicating in English? Rq4 Is there a statistically significant relationship between diverse cultures and workplace conflicts within multicultural organisations? Rq5 Is there a statistically significant relationship between multicultural workforces and miscommunication when communicating in English within a multicultural organisation?
Rq6 Is there difference between people of High and Low cultures in their attitudes about communication? 3.3 Research Hypothesis Hypothesis is a tentative explanation that accounts for a set of facts and can be tested by further investigation (Sukamolson, 2010). Owing to the proposal of the study, the researcher decides to test both
