The construction industry in China is spread widely and is huge. It is one of the construction sites that is large in the industry. The growth rate that is high in the construction industry in China is because of infrastructure shortage and building spaces that are large. In the future, the growth rate is approximated to be increasing (Rhodes, 2015). When compared to the developed countries, the GDP of China is low. This shows that more efforts should be put in order to grow the construction industry.

The construction industry in China is divided into Urban and Rural Collectives, State-Owned Enterprises, and Rural Construction Teams. In the year 1994, construction enterprises were employing more than twenty-four million staff in China.  In the construction sector employment is based on the people who are self-employed and small businesses. According to construction statistics from SME statistics (2006), 83% of the employment in the construction sector produces 68% of the output. 40% of the construction workforce according to LSC (2007) is self-employed and sole proprietors.

The construction industry has both small companies and medium-sized according to Langford and Male (2001). However, there are other subsections in the construction industry like repair and maintenance, infrastructure, housing, industrial and commercial. CSN (2007) projections showed that the sector will grow by 5.7% in the following four years. This was shown by the projects that were a large scale that had been started like the repair of Birmingham station. This shows that the construction industry is heterogeneous in nature.

This is because the employment opportunities are diverse and the structure is sub-sectional.
