Education Education plays a major role in anybody’s life in the contemporary age. Education instills the skills necessary to be competent in the workplace. The more educated an individual is, the greater his/her chances of employment are. Therefore, I intend to get the highest level of education in my field. Poverty and welfare Poverty in the present age makes life miserable and measures of social welfare serve to reduce this misery. Poverty has both immediate and longterm bad effects on one’s life.

Poverty makes it difficult to live a happy life. A poor person cannot even get quality education since education is so expensive. This leads to unemployment and continued poverty in the long run. Social security Social security generates a disincentive for employers to recruit for employees in large firms because of the price they have to pay for each additional employee in terms of additional tax. This can lead to unemployment. While people may find work in small companies, it would be difficult to get employed in a reputable large firm.

Race Race impacts my life in many ways. America today is a multiracial society. Although, the laws are much less tolerant about racism today than they were in the past, yet the impact of race does reflect in everyday dealings and relationships directly or indirectly. For example, marrying out of race raises many concerns for the people. Likewise, organizations bear the pressure of maintaining a balance of race in their employees even if that goes against their interests. Gender The impact of gender on life is decreasing with the passage of time.

Before, men and women had defined roles in the society but the boundaries of those roles are merging. Even then, many people still think that women can perform better in certain jobs and men in others. Minimum wage Minimum wage can prove to be both a good and a bad policy depending upon the socioeconomic status of an individual. Rich people generally have the means to acquire the skills that a company values enough to pay them at least the minimum wage for whereas poor people are generally the sufferers because they lack the means or education to acquire those skills.

Consequently, if I am rich enough, I would get skilled and would ensure that I get paid above the minimum wage but if I am poor, I am likely to be unemployed. Affirmative action Many a times, employers seem biased toward the underrepresented groups in terms of race or other factors in the workplace just to conform to affirmative action. This impacts the lives of employees negatively that think that skill is more important determinant of success at work than race or other factors. Rent control Rent control is likely to create homelessness.

When a property is worth more than the ceiling limit for rent established by the government, the owner lacks the incentive to keep the place well-conditioned. Many owners would instead like to invest their money in other businesses where they have greater margin of profit than constructing houses to give on rent. As a result, the demand for houses would exceed their availability.
