AN INDUSTRIAL HEARTLAND November 11, An Industrial Heartland, Ch. 5 The knowledge I acquire from reading through the article is second to none. The introductory part of the article captures my intention by giving summarized information about industrialization in America. The fast growth of the manufacturing sector is well analyzed by the comparison of industrial productivity of America to other European countries. The comparison is between 1860 and towards the end of the nineteenth century. American industrialization sector lagged behind in comparison to other countries like Germany but towards the end of the nineteenth century America was producing more than the competitors.

Why such a success in the American manufacturing industry? Further importance of the article is seen whereby explanations for such questions from different economic analysts are considered. Also, the first part of the article introduces a crucial aspect in the American industrialization history which is the geographical distribution of the industries after the World War. Earlier on, the industries were many specific areas compared to the late nineteenth century where industrial expansion was clear by just looking at the distribution of the industries.

Reading through the writing, I was astonished by the article about geographical distribution and dynamics of the industries. It quenches my thirst in the attempt to understand the factors that led to the distribution of these industries in America. The Northern side experienced massive growth in industrialization. Several factors attributing to this scenario are well explained in the article giving me a chance to expand my knowledge in business (An Industrial Heartland 124). A juxtaposition scenario is seen where the southern region is also analyzed.

The economic growth of the southern region came to a halt after the World War. Previously the southern region had flourished economically with high production of agricultural products for the local and international market. The main question answered is about the difference in growth between the different regions in America. One of the main things I learn in the article and can relate to a topic in economics is about specialization in production. It is clear especially in the textile industries in the Northern side specifically New York.

The production process was divided into stages with specific people handling specific jobs thus maximizing the utilization of workers.
