SolidWorks API Programming - Assignment Example

In order to complete designing a successful Application Programming Interface (API) will be used. API will be used to integrate various programs with the SolidWorks CAD package. This is shown in the diagram below;

Aim of the this work

 To develop a standard method or procedure for designing a component.

 to design a program that will automatically design and produce bolts.

 to use SolidWorks in modeling and design

The technical aspects of the design have been simplified to make it easier for non-technical readers to understand the usage of the design. The designed bolts are not suitable for commercial but will be availed to the public with a few modifications made. The task of API programming is SolidWorks this rotating motor inside a box was not an easy task.

Boundary Conditions

I ensure that the bolt is designed in SolidWorks then various conditions have to be made include

• The bolt will have a head of a polygon in nature and an option of Polygon in SolidWorks will be considered
• The polygon is drawn having coordinates of  X, and Y  at ( 0,0) for the center
• The head of the polygon will have 22mm  as the diameter and a radius of 11mm
• The depth of the bolt will be 8mm
  
  DESIGN PROCESS

Using the SolidWorks application 30 minutes are required for the design calculation process and for generating updated versions of bolt models. As there is no 100 percent design and drawing automation achieved. In this 0.30 hrs is required for drawing sheets checking because the design is based on customer requirements sometimes drawing views are scaled down or scaled up this has to do manually. However, Application Programming Interface reduced working time from 30 minutes of drawing to a duration of 0.6 seconds where the time interval was 0.003 seconds. The diagram below shows the output of the head with a 22mm diameter

Conclusion

In the design and modeling of the bolt, Application Programming Interface (API) integrated Solidworks and Excel VBA to reduce model time to 0.6s. this follows the writing done the appropriate code to read data from Excel and design the bolt. The model of the bolt has shown that Solidworks software can model and help in predicting compatible specifications. There are parameters like the diameter, depth, and length of the Bolt that are necessary.
