Every person engaged in practical or professional life comes across, and uses, the Internet. How things appear on screen of gadgets is a point to be pondered. Web development and web designing make this possible. There is a no barrier or difficulty for anyone to gain knowledge from the World Wide Web. There are special developers present who develop and design the web. Web design and web development seem to refer to the same concept but in fact they are quite different. This research report will explain many important aspects of web development. Web development is basically the set of work done behind the representation of a website. It creates the pillars through which the web page is visible on the screen of an electronic device. Web designing is a part of web development. Emergence of the Internet In the globalized world of today almost every individual comes across internet in one way or the other. Therefore it is important to know how internet came into existence and made our lives less complicated. With the passage of time it is growing both in terms of its complexity and utility. Internet development followed the development of computers in 50’s. Internet development was a product of research on interactive computing in the United States. The years between 1960 and 1970 witnessed the initial phases of its development and its use was started in early 1990. However its use was encouraged as soon as its commercial utility became evident (Christou, 2007). Early web development In the initial years of web development the systems were complicated to understand and manage. Web was invented by Berners Lee in the year 1989. His invention was preceded by his realization of the need for some system to send data across the world keeping in view the difficulties in doing so. Following his invention of internet fifteen years ago, HTTP rose to fame and started spreading in the world of computers thus becoming an indispensable part of it (Szpuszta & MacDonalds, 2008). Web 2.0 & Web 3.0 In the late 1970s web that was first ever seen was Web 1.0 that gave a way to solve things, and brought positive results. This helped the user to reach its end right away (West, 2008). One could do many activities, like sending an e-mail, wherein personal interaction was minimal. Web 1.0 used standard language with internet as the application (Joos, 2013). It lacked many facilities what we have today. Tim lee stated web1.0 as a read-only web that is one could only read the content on various websites but couldn’t interact further. Web 2.0 came into existence due to unavailability of proper communication. This started in the year 2004. It made interaction more easy and active. It is more widely used as a source of interactivity and sharing expression. Blogging is one of the important examples of Web 2.0 (West, 2008). Facebook, twitter and other social interaction modes are a blessing of this web. The sites introduced in Web 2.0 were a collection of higher level data for example Wikipedia which improves the learning capacity of individual (Rainer, 2010). This paved the way for newer applications in the domain of interactive learning. Web 3.0 is the revolutionized form of World Wide Web. It is the extended form that puts many features at the disposal of the user himself thus making life simpler. It started in 2006 and is available in form of vast variety of websites resulting in full interactive computing. Web 3.0 is a higher interlinked web that analyses, demonstrates, interprets and extracts data. (Sheth, 2013) Tim Lee explains Web 3.0 as a read-write-execute web. Responsive Web Design Responsive web design is a web designed for easy reading, scrolling and other activities on mobiles and tablets, and other devices. It is abbreviated as RWD and can be used in the transfer of many web pages. Such pages are created using HTML and other bootstrap. This makes pages responsive on the screen of computers, laptops and mobile phone devices. In short one can say that responsive web design is a way that can be easy to use and can be adapted by any type of gadgets (Peterson, 2014). There are three main components that define RWD (Gimenes & Kus, 2012).These are: Flexibility of grids Flexibility of pictures Media queries These tree components are important is depicting what exactly responsive web design is. Flexible grids make it easy for the design to fit in a device. The height and width is defined by this component. Grids get settled with the layout of device. Same characteristic goes for the second component. Pictures’ sizes get flexible with the size of the device screen. The third component makes it up to the users to design or choose any layout they want thus enabling them to manage and use responsive web design. For a responsive web to work there is no specification of size or type of device. It is spreading all over the world with its reliable points. It’s easy to manage and carry out anywhere anytime. There are no hard and fast rules as such as could overwhelm the users. Neither it is so costly. It can be easily approached by anyone. It is recommended by Google to all. So there lays a solid point to go for it. Google does so because of the reliability of use of RWD (Gimenes & Kus, 2012). Applications and future directions There is a wide range of applications of web development that can be seen around. Everything now a day is involved in web development application in one way or another. This tells the scope of it. There is application of web development in graphics designing that is getting adopted so much now a day. There are many developers who are working and making new and new features for the accessibility. Wide ranges of graphic designing software are present today thus making work easier. Many search engines are now developed which allow access to vast stores of knowledge. The applications of web development make the user reach the optimality condition making it flexible for the client and the server. There are tools developed by web for windows, android, mac and other devices that reduce the complications involved (Rainer, 2010; Szpuszta & MacDonalds, 2008). With rapid development in every field people are also hoping to see improvement in web development. Though web is very much developed already but developers are still trying to give maximum comfort to the user. There are chances to see improvement in the appearance and efficiency of web along with increasing the capacity of interaction of users. The communication on different social websites also seems to get improved in near future. Goals are being set in terms of attaining the reliability for users by the developers. More and more data is entered for making vast knowledge attainment in no time (Rainer, 2010; Szpuszta & MacDonalds, 2008). Search engine optimization techniques Search engine optimisation (SEO) is a range of work done that results in the improvement of a website or a webpage on the search engine (Grappone, 2010). The web developers use the methods of SEO to enhance the appearance of sites in different search engines. The more the number of views acquired the more benefit they get as a result. So SEO increases the number of visitors on a website and attains a rank in results on search engine. The higher the rank the higher number of visitors will be of that site (Enge & Spencer, 2012). There are some basic techniques that help in attainment of visitors on a website so as to make it the most viewed website. Some of these techniques are as follow (Enge & Spencer, 2012; Grappone, 2010): Unique title tag A unique title attracts more visitors to a website. The title should be eye-catching and relevant to the data present on the website. There should be some keywords present in the title tag of the page. Customized Meta description Title tag is not enough for a page to get most views. It is also necessary that a page has customized and compelling Meta description. A précis of the page should neither be too long nor too short. It should be easy for the visitor to do skimming and scanning of that page in seconds. Headings and points Many people today like to see to the point and relevant data. Making points and big headings make it easy for the user to know if the site contains the relevant data. Bullets and points look more presentable rather than paragraphs. Add images Images give a good look to the page. Adding pictures facilitates the viewer in terms of getting to the information a person is looking for. Mind map or sitemap Creating mind map and a sitemap makes it catchy for a viewer to reach the required data. The main goal of search engine optimisation is to optimize the information for the user. So making a sitemap makes it easy for the viewer to know the links embedded in a website. It also makes a website vast even if the site is small. Interlinks with social websites There should be interlinks in the page to sites like Google, face book, twitter etc. for this makes it easy for the viewers to share the information on different forums as majority of the viewer’s use social websites too. This makes a site effective. Daily updates The owner of the website should update and visit the website on daily basis. There should be interactive mode in the website between the viewer and owner of the page. This makes the page active and invites many visitors. Conclusion: Web development is a very important tool nowadays. It paves way towards further innovations. The domain of web development witnesses a revolution every single minute. Its reach is expanding swiftly. Web development plays a significant role in our fast-paced goal-oriented lives.
