Webb book review
Come Again By Robert Webb
Summary of Authors Key Points
The book, 'Come again' by Robert Webb, is plotted as a reflective and traveling narration in which there is Kate, who is a widow, and her husband has been recorded to die of brain tumor (Webb, 1955). Hence, Kate wakes up and day and finds that she has gone back to the university and remembers everything related to the time that they met back in 1992. Therefore, she sets about trying her best, at least to change the future. In the book, the author has captured the initial days at the university with lots of humor and warmth, flapping of first love relationships, and the madness connected to the Freshers' week, without leaving out the dreams and hopes that these students had concerning their future (Webb, 1955). Therefore, Webb has written the book entailing the story of a woman who has to return to her past life to enable her to absorb and re-engross with the present situations and assimilate her loss with the hope concerning the future (Webb, 1955).
In the first section of the text, Webb has told about Kate and demonstrates her in her forties. According to the text, Kate has been in love with this same man, Luke, for around twenty-eight years, but the husband has just died (Webb, 1955). Therefore, in this instance, the text has demonstrated Kate's grief and the level to which her entire world is -spaced out. As a result of the condition that she finds herself in, Kate has decided to cut away all her friends and put them off from her life. Besides, she has lost her job, and what is more annoying is the fact that Kate is almost to destroy herself (Webb, 1955).
In the second section of the text, Webb has demonstrated the text to seem like being a journey. On this note, Kate has been taken back to her younger life when she was joining campus. When she was a new undergraduate, this was the moment where she met with Luke, as well as other friends of whom she is trying her best to avoid since the death of Luke occurred (Webb, 1955). According to the text, Kate tried to set out and alter the course concerning Luke’s life so that he would not die all that young. In the third section of the text, the author has brought the reader back to the present days of Kate. Therefore, the text presents Kate's actions recorded in the first section of the text and some instances of the second section (Webb, 1955).
Therefore, the author has divided the text into three sections, which are reflective of Kate's life. In the first section, there is a life that she lived before getting what she has termed as experience. In the second part, the book has fully discussed Kate as a youth and the happy life that she experienced in the university (Webb, 1955). The last section demonstrates Kate’s existence after all this. Thus, the third section shows her life after getting this experience of life. From the beginning of the text all through, Webb –has expressed Kate to be worrying about the butterfly-outcome significances concerning her occurrence in this chapter regarding history. Therefore, she is worried about how she would make things better but most determined how she would not make them worse (Webb, 1955). Therefore, with these instances in the text, it has turned out to be a medication concerning ethics and the physics of time travel.
The core theme of the text can be considered to be grief, love, hope, change, as well as adventure. On this note, the author has presented the possibility of individuals falling in love for their first time, and thus, the text presents magical possibilities (Webb, 1955). Like being her very fast lover, and a lover for a long period, Kate was outwardly affected by his death. Hence, she is in actual grief and feels like not speaking to anyone. She has to depart from her friend, who has been considered a way of getting better for herself (Webb, 1955). Also, she observed this moment of getting back to the past as the only way to alter and make her future better. However, when she muddles with time and conditions, the results may take her to worse conditions concerning her grieving.
Personal Response
Among the recent books that I have read, this book has come to be the best in concern to the strength of screen and visual quality. Therefore, my first impression concerning the text is that it would outwardly work better if implied on the large or small screen. On this note, Webb's foundation concerning the screen industry has impacted the direction and style concerning this novel (Webb, 1955). On the other hand, in consideration of the storyline of the text, I was attracted and touched by the conditions that Kate is enduring. As I read the book, I sympathized with the situations she is passing through. Besides, I read the text hoping that Kate would be able to pass through all this grief and at least move to the other side of life.
As I read the second section of the text, I took some time to understand what was going on. The section concerns time travel instance where Kate is transported to her youth and remembers everything about the college, and she meets with Luke (Webb, 1955). I have realized that time travel novels have been confusing me before getting the flow and connecting with the rest of the story in the text. However, after getting what this instance was all about, I considered it 'a what if' moment. I just imagined an individual who has been married for all these years, twenty-eight, loses the spouse and is there recalling the initial days of their love. I think this moment would be like a paradox; the individual would have mixed feelings in herself. She would smile for remembering the fresh love that they had and be sad that the lover is already gone and never to be seen anymore (Webb, 1955). Therefore, this was the most interesting instance for me in the entire novel.
In the text, I experience a complication with the fact that Kate is already a widow who is forty plus, but when she falls in love again with Luke, he is immature. Therefore, according to this instance, Luke needs some time to grow so that they can be compatible (Webb, 1955). On the other hand, I like the fact that Kate, at this time, has the power to change Luke's life and even caution him concerning early death that would be caused by a brain tumor. However, the instance that Kate encounters spies, gangsters, and karate hacks her way through the roadblocks that she faces (Webb, 1955). This moment seemed to be absurd to me.
Application to You as a Life Coach
The text can be considered to have various tips for me as a life coach. One of the best policies that I have derived from the book is the strategy concerning evasion of grief and bad moments. On this note, when I am in such discouraging moments, I would try getting my mind away and thinking of the past good moments. Therefore, my mind will outwardly dilute the wicked thoughts and bring in better ones. On the other hand, I have realized that friends should be implemented in someone's life when one is in such bad moments. In the text, Kate almost complicated her life and destroyed herself after she had decided to reject all her earlier friends when she was in a difficult situation. On this note, I have learned that as a decent life coach, I should train individuals and me on how to keep friends close to themselves when in such circumstances. Also, the text has implied the fact concerning relationships and love. In the recent past, the generation around Kate's age has been having various difficulties maintaining relationships. There are many break-up couples concerning this age. Besides, in the recent past, couples have been observing it difficult to stay for such years that Kate and Luca had stayed in their relations (28 years). Therefore, I will have to research and get various tips that would be applied to accomplish this. The tips will also be shared and implemented to other individuals in relationships or who are almost getting into relationships.
