Hamlet, Part 3: Figurative Language and Allusions - Essay Example

The play: Hamlet can be subjected to several interpretations from the numerous audiences, which may, as a result, bring up the transformation. The identifiable traits of the character are a dramatic persona, fatalistic views, and indecisiveness that make him a complex human. As the play reveals, a complex human is an individual who faces dilemmas and problems with inconclusiveness, which results from unique individual perceptions. Firstly, Shakespeare uses literary devices such as characterization and figurative language to develop a complex character within Hamlet.

  The author depicts him as a person who is tentative and one who procrastinates making critical decisions (Sosnowska, 2018). For instance, Hamlet experiences difficulties trying to determine whether the Ghost is real or just Satan's tricks of coaxing him to make the wrong decisions. Additionally, Shakespeare uses symbols such as clothing and ghosts to reflect on the character's outward and inward turmoil. The complicated plans made by Hamlet result in ambiguity. It is also similar to the conflicted feeling he is having.

It is also unclear the point in which Hamlet loses his sanity. It makes his revenge to take control of the plot to fake madness. Secondly, Hamlet's erratic behavior portrays him as mad. The circumstances that he faces lends him the inability to manage his emotions to the extent that he abandons the reality of life. According to LESSA DE OLIVEIRA (2018), Hamlet becomes violent and extremely stressed, revealing that he has other issues besides acting mad. His impulses and choices give rise to the question as to what drives his actions with no considerations of the consequences.

Hamlet's negligence and reckless actions help in illustrating the complexity of the human condition. Thirdly, Shakespeare uses the theme of women to convey the complexity of human nature. Hamlet seems to be more frantic while relating to the female characters in the play. He disapproves of his mother's quick remarriage after the death of her husband, as he thinks she did not love her first partner. After Hamlet starts acting mad, he sees Ophelia, a woman he had been wooing as a bother to him (Munro, 2011).

He starts seeing her as his enemy, together with Polonius, Claudius, and Gertrude. Although it is not clear why Hamlet disapproves of women characters, Shakespeare presents it as the complexity of human nature. In conclusion, Shakespeare uses Claudius to portray the greedy nature of human nature. Claudius assassinates his blood brother to claim the queen and the crown. By killing the king, who is right and noble, Claudius is driven by greed to fulfill his ambitions. He epitomizes the human condition, as desire is part of human beings.

It is easy to note that self-concern is a characteristic of all humans. However, in the face of different challenges, different people have different emotional, physical, and psychological reactions depending on the individual state of mind.
