Frankenstein Critical Analysis - Book Report/Review Example

It was always interfered with by the impassable ice. When his ship was trapped, he met Victor Frankenstein who had been sailing by a dog-drawn vessel across the impassable ice (Shelley,15).

The cold icy waters of the sea weakened Frankenstein but Walton saved him when he took him aboard his ship, he treated him back to health. During their conversation, he heard of the monster that Frankenstein formed. Through various letters, Walton tells his sister the stories about his journey, how he met Victor Frankenstein and the monster that Frankenstein formed. To understand the literary ideas of the novel Frankenstein, it is good to look at various themes, which bring the meaning of the novel. For instance, the theme of dangerous knowledge is manifested when Victor Frankenstein tries to go beyond the human limit and get a secret life. Similarly, Walton tries to go beyond previous human experiences and explorations by vowing and daring to reach the North Pole. This unending pursuit and search for knowledge and new ideas as presented in the Light and Fire scenario proves risky and dangerous as Frankenstein's creation of the monster turns into the destruction of everybody that he loved (Shelley, 84).

Walton on the other gets himself trapped and logged in ice sheets. Frankenstein’s obsessive anger and hatred of the monster lead to his death. Walton did not continue with the journey when he learned how dangerous and destructive the search for knowledge could be. The novel also portrays the fragile nature of humanity in that Victor Frankenstein sinks into remorse and depression after the deaths of Justine and William in which he thinks he took part. This makes him go to the mountains in search of spiritual renewal. The impact of nature is evident throughout the entire novel in that even the monster feels his heart light when the signs of spring season start showing. In an attempt to find peace and solace, Victor moves to the mountains but while alone, the monster appears. It tells him it was responsible but sorry and remorseful for the murder of William to injure and inflicts pain on Victor its cruel creator (Shelley, 56).

The novel is devoid of active and strong woman figures in that it is full of women who suffer silently and then vanish from the scene. For instance, Caroline Beaufort a selfless woman dies poor helping her daughter she adopted while Justine is killed or murdered despite her kindness and innocence (Shelley, 115). Elizabeth on the other hand waits for Victor Frankenstein to return but she never saw him since the monster killed her.
