The universal quality of mythology is revealed in the archetypal figures and themes that pervade the myth. An inherent structure can be perceived throughout all mythology. Cambell called this structure the ‘monomyth’… The monomyth is a single structure, just as the hero is a single figure. Just as the hero has a thousand faces, the myth has a thousand plots. In turn, both the hero and his myth share common archetypal elements.
Cambell took this word from Finnegans Wake by James Joyce. As the word occurs on page 581 of this book, ‘And his monomyth! Ah ho! Say no more about it! I am sorry! I saw…...’ Cambell used the word ‘monomyth’ to refer to the journey of a hero which is almost the same in all myths in the world. In his famous book The Hero with a Thousand Faces(2008), he explains that ‘the standard path’ of a monomyth hero contains the three stages: ‘Seperation---Initiation---- Return’(p23).
A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder(x): fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won(y): the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man (z).(Joseph Campbellpp23).
These three stages contain substages. Campbell enumerates around 17 stages.    ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

Earth Science

...Food chain is a representation of the energy transfers from one organism to another. It starts from a producer, usually plants, which are autotrophs that can harness light energy to form organic compounds. Plants are then used by primary consumers, or calves, for energy. These herbivores are then consumed by carnivores, such as humans. Upon death, these carnivores are decomposed by microorganisms into simpler compounds that can be utilized by the producers by nourishment. Geographers look at organisms in terms of how they are distributed on Earth. Usually, their association with other animals, such as that depicted in a food chain, gives an impression as to the place or habitat a particular food chain is present. As to...

Earth Science the Earth’s bovine population have an even greater impact upon overall CO2 levels than all human activity within any given year. However, this should not be seen to delegitimize the processes whereby humans can provide additional negative impacts upon the global environment. Due to the fact that the Earth is ultimately a closed system, it can only integrate a certain amount of change before negative impacts are seen. As such the Earth’s ecological system might be able to integrate with volcanic eruptions or the methane gas produced by cows; however, further integration of the ever-increasing levels of human CO2 emissions is likely well beyond the capabilities of the system as a whole....

Planet Earth

...Planet Earth: Disc There are cycles to almost everything in nature and this is shown in the first DVD of the Planet Earth series; "From Pole to Pole/ Mountains/ Fresh Water". The seasons are a cycle that is brought up continuously throughout every section, whether it is two seasons or four depends on the location. Places that reside along the equator experience only two seasons, one wet and one dry, because they get an immense amount of direct sun exposure. This is because of the way the Earth is positioned; this tilt of the earth's axis is also what is directly responsible for the four seasons of the most northern and the most southern climates. Due to the fact that...

Earth systems

...Earth Systems 2. Explain the difference between ground- level and stratospheric ozone; why has one a beneficial and the other a detrimental role in the atmosphere? In the early phase of the earth’s history, life could only survive in the oceans because the deadly ultraviolet rays of the sun precluded the growth of life on the earth’s surface. These UV rays could not, however, penetrate water, hence, life flourished in the oceans until ozone started forming from oxygen. Ozone, which has a chemical symbol of O3, is a colorless and unstable gas made up of three atoms of oxygen (Butz 376). It occurs in two layers of the earth: the stratospheric layer, and; the tropospheric layer or the ground-level layer. Presently posing a problem... to the...

Gods command

... that these politicians will help us in attaining our aims and objectives in life. Firstly, these politicians should realize that they are nothing if God and if God does not wants them to be popular, they will never become popular. The passage even shows that human beings are just a means and they should not be treated as superior to God. God uses human beings to help His people as He cannot come to earth and help us out. So instead of praising the human element, we should praise God for his kindness. Works Cited Bailey, Douglas B. Living On One Day's Rations. 1st ed. Lima, Ohio: CSS Pub. Co., 2001. Print....
