Well luck might have knocked on their door the day that the strange girl moved in next door with her mother. Definitely her beauty was so much that it took Ku by surprise and therefore a strange love emerged. The strangeness of this girl came from the way she handled her things with a lot of secrecy. Ku knew only very late what she was really up to and he could not convince her to stay. At first they thought that it is because they were too poor that he could not afford to get and keep her as his wife.

Well, but he settled for what he got from her; occasional sex and her helping with his aged mother. Maybe he thought this would eventually lead to marriage but the girl never thought of that. She was vengeful and selfish at the same time. This is because she did not consider Ku’s feelings and aspirations but her own, to get justice for her father’s death. Ku is an understanding young man; this can be drawn from his tone on numerous occasions. He slowly asks the girl why she cannot get married to him and when she decides not to answer, he does not force the issue (Ma & Lau 79).

When she tells him to take care of their baby without her, he does it without any questions being asked, putting her needs before his own. Maybe this girl takes advantage of this to hurt him but that is not of concern to Ku who trusts her and keeps waiting for her to make the decision to get married to him. Ku’s mother is overjoyed upon receiving her grandson (Ma & Lau 80). At least now there is an heir to the family even though.
