From this paper, it is clear that though Mama is exhibited strong motivational strength in this play, she is however not its focal point, as many critics assumed. “A Raisin in the Sun” though Walter Lee demonstrate how Mama influenced his life through manipulation and blackmail. A proud woman, Mama is not much wealthy, but she exudes dignity, walks tall, and carries herself, as Hansberry would say, with the "noble bearing of the women of the supermen of Southwest Africa," as though she walks with a "vessel upon her head.
" Her kids define her life; she describes them as her "harvest." With no considerable dreams of her own, she lives sensationally through her children. Her vicarious lifestyle is demonstrated further since even the dream of buying a house is motivated only by the desire to improve the living conditions for her family. She declared upon receiving the insurance check that she would donate the entire amount to her church. This study discusses that Mama seems to be accustomed to enduring hardships and suffering.
She has previously suffered the demise of a baby and, most recently, that of her husband of several decades. Her deep religious convictions and strong faith give her the physical and psychological mettle she needs in order to overcome life's challenges. At her lowest point, she prays God to rejuvenate her waning strength and is with immediate effect possessed of a more kindhearted perception of Walter Lee's enemies.
