Choices and Under the Stars - Essay Example

Reading the two poems together gives insight into the personas lifestyle that is knightly inter twinkled in a natural environment which the poet uses to pass across their themes. For example, the tree in Gallagher’s poem, ‘Choices’ symbolically leads to the theme of environmental conservation. Moreover, the nests on the branches illustrate living thing; plants and animals that require a suitable environment for their survival.The poems are highly complementary. In the ‘Choices’ the speaker uses the tree and its branches to refer to life that is a product of a preserved environment, ‘Under the stars’ on the other hand emphasizes this by bringing in other benefits of a good environment like wet grass, rain as well as bushes.

The first person narration adopted by the speaker is limited because it makes the reader to have a single sided point of view. The readers only learn what the persona wants them to know. However, its effectiveness lies in the fact that it makes the reader focus only on the necessary details.
