This is to say the present lifestyles and cultural dispositions are a representation of the past cultures. Thus, if a behavior or a culture was good in the past society, it would follow without a doubt that the present and subsequent generations. Subsequently, if a culture or behavior from the past was retrogressive and barbaric, it is incumbent upon this current society and subsequent generation to gauge it with the aim of abandoning it (Arthur, 1986). In principle, one of the benefits of knowing the past is to enable he current and subsequent generations to appreciate the successes and the good traits of the past generations with the aim of cherishing them, while at the same rebuking the archaic and barbaric traits.
As a matter of fact and principle, the knowledge about past is important because it informs and forms the theoretical base about future behaviors and cultures. With this background in mind, knowledge of history guides present and future behaviors or culture in general because as humanity we would only capitalize and major on the best practices of the past generations. It is important to understand the past so as to avoid a replica of the mistakes and the ill-things that they did. In practical and simple terms, it would not help much to ignore the past because it would imply that as a society we would never improve on the defects and failures of the past.
Therefore we would repeat the same mistakes and a human race, we would not make any meaningful step in the sojourn towards better welfare and improved quality of life. For instance, the whole world was shaken in the aftermath of the world wars. It is incumbent upon the present and subsequent generations to learn and understand the issues that might have pushed the world towards the drain of destruction. Similarly, we are able to use the information about the past so as to better our quality of life and welfare as a human race, in all aspects
