Part I He is talented in personification and symbolism characterization. In the first part of the book Big Two-Hearted River, Earnest has done an incredible work bringing in the blackened grasshopper. It has turned black to adapt to the surroundings that have been blackened by the fire and smoke. Nick wonders how long it would take the grasshopper to regain its normal color. The author has used the grasshopper as a symbol to represent the soldiers and the toll the war had on them. No one had an idea how long the hardness the soldiers had acquired would take to wither away.

Part II Patience and hope would be my priority aspect. In all history and even in the life we are living; patience is a virtue. Everything has been made so easy which has led to people losing patience, and this has resulted to a number of social problems. For example, when someone wants a hot drink, they simply put it in the microwave and there they have it. When they require something to cool down fast such as food, they simply put it in the fridge, and in a few moments, all is well. I relate to Nick and his hopeful words to the grasshopper.

Although Seney town had been reduced to ashes, it would re-emerge someday. Its re-emerge may not happen immediately, but that does not imply that survival in other places had come to a halt, which is ultimately an optimistic way of viewing life. Whether it is the temporary means of the black grasshopper and Nick or all of nature’s external survival, the entire universe can never be all enveloping desolate land. Part III Sarah, in the book “Revolt of Mother” was a woman of valor only that she was living in the wrong ages.

During this period, a woman’s role was to take care of all home and family affairs and obey her husband. Sarah however felt that she should be awarded the same respect she gives to her husband. Animosity can be felt when the author writes that she prepared the pies faithfully, and she could see across the table when glancing from her work cellar being dug for the new barn in the same place Adoniram had promised her several years ago that their new house would be standing (Mikels, pg. 29). At the very end, change has eventually caught up with Adoniram.

He has eventually changed his views of the way Sarah, his wife, should conduct herself. Sarah’s decision of making the new barn his or her family’s new home took everyone by surprise. He may have been excused on how he treated or saw his wife owing to the era they lived in. there was an abrupt change in how he treated Sarah.
