number Association of the film: London, Baskerville Hall and the moor with Gothic elements The perspective of the film in light with architecture is to bring out the elements of the gothic revival period that signified the lives of masters and their servants. Thus, the role of architecture in this gothic film is to contribute to the title and depict the relationship of different people on the moor. It also affects the narrative in the sense that the dwellers of the mansion and the clumped buildings are clearly interrelated (Cushing, Morell and Christopher, 1).

Among the characters in the film are Sir Hugo Baskerville and the daughter of one of the servants that are abused in a cruel manner. They influence the activities and plot within it through influencing the subsequent activities at Baskerville where a person who walks on the moor alone is killed by the hound. The characters are recognized in a way that their contrasting characters are displayed. While the master is powerful and arrogant, the slave girl is powerless and frightened. Yes, certain characters function as foils while others reflect or question the specific ideologies.

They include Holmes, Watson and Sir Henry (Cushing, Morell and Christopher, 3).The setting in the film is a symbolic representation of the narrative in the way that it depicts the connection between the characters who want to assist and protect each other from the dangers at the moor. There are certain motifs that suggest the presence of distinct subjects or themes (2). These include the continuous hound and availability of the characters at the moor after dark. The settings contribute to their development in the way that it is the one that results in the cycle of death on the night that Cecil takes Sir Henry out to the moor at night (5).

The audience is presented on the juxtaposition of perspectives that the silhouetted figure and the person adjusting the lights are enemies from without. In this sense, the panoptic view achieves the twist of the story that is included in this narrative. With this, it indicates that Holmes is aware of the presence of the audience since he goes to the moor and hides before the rest while he is expected to be away on a different case. The role that Watson’s letter has to play in the narrative is to warn Sir Henry of the impending danger that is presented at the Baskerville (6).

There are a number of gothic elements in the film. These include the architecture, the way that a horror scene is created with the aspect of hounding during the night as well as the eminent suspense that is created. Their main role in setting the overall mood is that of fear and anxiety. The physical representations of the gothic include the buildings and the trappings. In this case, the gothic mode bridges the two worlds of London and moor that include hypocrisy, foul play and the desire to revenge.

This is in the way that the characters appear to be friendly while they are planning evil for each other (Cushing, Morell and Christopher,4).The director uses the transition to juxtapose the geographies of London and Devon Moor through the shifting of the plot from one area to another. With this, he makes it easy for the audience to connect each of the scenes for a better understanding.Works CitedThe hound of the Baskervilles. Dir. Fisher Terence. Perf. Peter Cushing, Andre Morell and Lee Sir Christopher. 1959. Film.
