The Road by McCarthy The novel is popular because of its scary nature. The element of horror has been engaged throughout the novel. The novel has scary scenes that as an individual one cannot overcome the scenery. It speaks about a father’s love for the son that makes them overcome fear. The author of this novel is an element of voice. In his voice, one can hear glaciers cracking, stone shifting and trees moaning. The old cadences of his style take on a different worldly quality that moves one. A person can always wonder how McCarthy does his sentences and language together so exquisitely. It may be the first time an individual is experiencing this but what is unfolded is very terrifying than one could ever imagine. Like many other critics, McCarthy is not afraid to look into the hole. McCarthy peers into the darkest corners where humanity exists with the help of a blooded lamp. I have passed through this novel many times when I first read it I was swept by emotions. My emotions were due to some unavoidable circumstance of life. Going through this book at this time placed me in a situation that exposed me as vulnerable to the topic. This novel is generally about a dad giving up all for a son-surviving and keeping on in spite of nightmare scenery and only for the sake of his son. There was a feeling There was a feeling of plugging into the current in manner that I did not know. The most frightening moment in any story that is horrific is when there are noises heard- noise at back of a close door; one heard in a loft, or basement; that heard in bushes; a noise beneath a cave and an individual follows the sounds. Everybody always opts to yell loudly: do not go near that place. It is that time of suspense, the moment before the bogie is exposed, and that marks the most captivating. After the opening of the door, after a flashlight is shone on what awaits, the crowd may scream or laugh although at last there is a feeling of relief. This is because what is given by the filmmaker or author is not that bad compared to what the audience imagine. This passage in particular, at the very moment the father notices a house situated on the hill, one can guess that something worse waits inside. Much time is taken by him to move towards the house, to discover its several rooms and ultimately move into the basement. His first move was moving down the wooden steps. The father stooped his head and brushed the lighter and swayed the flame over darkness like a contribution, damp and coldness, a stench that is ungodly. He could view a stone wall part, clay floor. An ancient mattress with dark stains. He stepped down and crouched again and carried the light. The whole time is spent on yelling: do not near there. Nonetheless he does. Bunched on the back wall were nude people, female and male, all attempting to hide, protecting their face by the use of their hands. A man lay on the mattress with the legs gone to the current and their stumps burnt and blackened. The odor was hideous. Then step by step blinked and turned in the deplorable light. They whispered for help. And by chance this is the moment such a thing has ever occurred. Nonetheless, what is unfolded was more terrifying than the imaginable. Humans hunt each other for survival reasons. These light, chewed up beings originated from the dark and clatter their moans and chains and go for the father. They feared them although they were frightened more of the future that is waiting for the father (McCarthy, pp. 240) The device of horror as used by McCarthy in the road explores that house in the novel and ultimately leads to the basement: a lengthy period of suppression, suspense deepening, raising stakes up to when the hidden thing in darkness is unfolded. As much as McCarthy is unafraid to look into the hole, he also takes into consideration the use of violence. Comparing this novel with Chuck Palahniuk’s works, one feels Chuck is titillated by a type of gorenography. He writes violence in a manner that feels extreme and carnival sideshow intended to make individuals guffaw horribly and slap their feet. One would hope that a narrative that fights with such things is intended not to excite but to horrify. And that is the problem with other novels; they discourage rather than encourage violence (Greenwood, pp. 15) People prepare for such kinds of horror whole of their lives. Passing through this novel sometimes feels like you are in the act with characters, trudging through bleak, gray, uncaring scenery that comes before you without rescue hope. The noel ‘The Road” has more than what it deserves according to despair and brutality although it also has powerful thin, love running vein. In this novel, there is love of a boy for the father and the love of a father for a son. This is what keeps them going even in unimaginable horrors. As corny as it may look, it is the love they have for each other that sees them through. Love sees them going just like in a real manner we are sheltered, saved and sustained y this connection of their own. The idea is not new as it has been shared by great artist that existed before McCarthy though is a powerful lasting truth that is shared with all of us. Individuals may live in a world that is cool for affection displays though no more independent on love. When one reads the novel, it reminds some basic truth that we should celebrate and recall like the novel does. The truth is that genre adherence has become less vital to several best writers and lest vital to their readers. Consequently, areas that are gray between genres expand to a point that they are big as genres s themselves. As much as genre trapping in fiction is not new, more of it can be seen than before. This novel is one amongst many novels that culminates spiced stew of genre that simmers on literary stove for a lengthy time. In conclusion, horror as used in this novel is intended to encourage and not to discourage. The more it gets scary in the novel, the more the father moves towards the house and beneath its basement. This style of writing makes the book to be enjoyable and popular. Despite of its horrifying scenes, there is something that keeps them going.
