This to me looks liken the law of the jungle (Lansing, 2000).
On the other hand, during the time, there was the era of an ‘eye for an eye’ to get things even. It was painful for those who had been wronged especially those that had lost their loved ones. ...Death in Dickinson’s “Because I Could Not Stop for Death” Death is a mystery to all, and no matter how much imagination we put to it, no one can paint a clear picture. This, however, is not the case with Dickinson’s view of death as she illustrates to us her view of death in her poem “Because I Could Not Stop for Death.” According to her, she personifies death as a gentleman caller who has come to pick her up and take her with him. She sees death as a kind and well mannered suitor as she talks about his “kindness” and “civility” in the way he treated her. During her journey, death drives her slowly with no hurry as though he was a courteous suitor with lots of consideration for her. Dickinson’s use of symbolism and...

...Poem Reading by Vocal delivery of a poem is a complicated task because it requires deep understanding of the text and certain eloquence. While reading for the first time it was difficult to capture the exact meaning of the author and convey it with the help of intonation and voice. I have noticed that making right pauses gives a poem coherency and can reveal author`s message. However, it is not that easy to understand where it is necessary to make all stops after the first reading because logical pauses do not always coincide with punctuation marks. Moreover, it is important to pronounce different words with different loudness to create necessary rhythm, and it is also possible only after...

...Carrier of Ladders: the Judgment of Paris by W.S. Merwin The poem ‘The Judgment of Paris’ by Merlin is a recreation of an ancient Greek mythical story, where three goddesses of Greek places a young prince with an ordinary mind Paris in position that defines the future of troy. It is a position where even intelligent individuals placed under the same circumstances could not be able to make a rational decision. However, the criticality of the decision is because Paris` decision would either save troy or result in war essentially leading to the doom of troy. Therefore, the poem is characterized by stress in the end lines of some stanza, ‘you will forget anyway’, ‘you will suffer anyway’ and ‘you will lose...

...was the result of a policy of racial segregation existing throughout the nation. Racism was such an intimate aspect of a segregated society. Colored people and especially blacks were expected to act inferior towards the white people. The very fact of being considered an inferior person owing to the skin of one’s color was indeed painful and hurting. The only way left for the African Americans to claim an equal status was to raise their voice against injustice. Thereby, Maya Angelou in her poem Caged Bird is encouraging the African American people to raise their voice against racial discrimination. The amazing thing about this poem is that it happens to be an extended metaphor. The poet has not mentioned...
