of the World Literature of the Concerned 18 February The Story of Nian The story under consideration is a third person narrative and the narrator happens to be someone standing outside the proper story. The narrator seems intentionally on the side of the villagers mentioned in the story. The narrator happens to narrate the story with an omniscient point of view, which means that the narrator knows everything that needs to be known about the characters, actions and motivations mentioned in the story. 2. The salient plot point in the story is when the old traveler with the white beard comes to the village.

It is only when the old traveler enters the narrative that the story digs into action and gets spun in an entirely new direction.3. The monster Nian and the old man happen to be the two primary characters in the story. Nian happens to be a man eating monster. Nian lived deep in the ocean and had half the body of a dragon and half the body of a unicorn. The old man in the story that comes to the village and helps the villagers get rid of Nian had a long white beard. He happens to be of a generous and hearty disposition.

In addition there are many other characters in the story that are explained in a generalized sense without referring to their physical attributes like the old lady who hosts the old man and the villagers.
