“Comparison of writing styles of Hemingway and Faulkner” United s of America has many good writers, poets, and the people who have earned their names in the field of literature. In this way, Hemingway and Faulkner are some of those writers in the history of America who have set a standard for the upcoming generations in the field of literature. Moreover, both of these writers are of the same age and time, and hence, both of them can be considered as rivals for each other. The verbal flattery with the pinch of sarcasm was clearly visible whenever they talked about each other.

Even though they have some sort of similarities in the writings and stories, however, most of their work and literature can be called as “in contrast” to the other one. In some cases, their works have similar things which are common in the writings of each other as well. Moreover, Hemingway and Faulkner were also aware of each other’s fame and they used to contact with each other through letters. The writing styles of these authors were usually different from each other in most of the times such as Hemingway was the writer who used to persuade and attract his readers through short sentences and used similar words having same meanings as rhetoric.

These literary devices allowed him to have a coherent flow in his writings which grasped the attention of the readers. In Faulkner’s writings however once can see use of long sentences which appear to lead the readers into the story. Unlike Hemingway, Faulkner avoided simplicity in his writings. In other words, Hemingway preferred to write in a concise simple manner without brewing up any verbose intricacies. On the other hand, Faulkner and Hemingway also have some similar themes in their writings and stories as well.

For example, one of the many similar things that both of these writers has is that both of them talked about the universal truths of the life and the world. In this way, their writings are really important, easy to understand and have a lot of meanings and messages hidden in them. Both were great lovers of nature and earth and their love is visible in their vivid descriptions of nature in their stories. Both believed that the earth, fruits, trees and all of nature is what embody all what is good and humans should protect it.

Although the topic of writings was similar for both writer, a very important and famous difference that can also be called as “difference of approach” or it can also be termed as “difference of perception”, is that they have different approach for the art of writing. In other words, writing is an “art” for the Hemingway but it is a “process” for the other one. Conclusively, it can be said that both Hemingway and Faulkner were some of the most prestigious writers of America and both of them were basically talking about the universal truths of the life.

In this way, they also had a lot of differences as well. Hence, this is an important subject area for the discussion in the field of literature.
