According to Machiavelli, this book is dedicated by him to Lorenzo de’ Medici, who was the nephew of Giovanni de’ Medici (Leo X) and became duke of Urbano in 1516. The main idea of the book revolves around the qualities Machiavelli describes about a prince or a political leader the book also gives the idea about values of society, the pride and fall of political authorities and the key points that should make a political authority long lasting. As per my perspective the book tells about what actually works in the world of politics.

The book consists of 24 chapters each with a provoking idea of its own. In the book, Machiavelli describes the prince as the main political power ruled over the state. According to him the leading power possessor should have some influential and exceptional qualities that may help him to rule over the state for long. According to Machiavelli, "A man who wishes to make a vocation [career] of being good at all times will come to ruin among so many who are not good". Secondly, what I have observed that according to the writer the prince should have a sharp and active mind to make important and serious decisions for the nation.
