28-year-old Catherine Genovese called as Kitty was going to her apartment from the parking lot. Kitty was frightened to see a man at a distance in the parking lot, so she rushed towards the phone booth to make a call to the police. She had taken a few paces when the man approached and stabbed her. She cried. Having heard her cries, a man from an apartment lit his room, opened the window, and shouted at the stabber.
This made the stabber escape for a while. Then the lights went off and the man again caught hold of Kitty who was running towards her apartment for life. The man stabbed Kitty a second time. This time, lights in several apartments turned on and people looked down at them from their windows. The man escaped again. A bus passed in front of Kitty. She had managed to crawl her way up to the building’s back. The man again reached her through the second door, this time stabbing her to death. Read More
