Ever since childhood, he had realized his inclination to arts, specifically sculpture. He believed in his own talents. Michaelangelo was born into a large family working with the ‘Wool and Silk Guilds.’ His father Lodovico di Lionardo Buonarroti Simoni realized his potentials which were far greater than his siblings, thus, he sent him to the best schools and trainings even those beyond their means. Most of his father failed since he was not interested in studying but he was often in the company of painters (Taylor-Foster 13).

Michaelangelo’s serious interest in arts started by being an apprentice for Domenico Ghirlandaio. With the later support and patronage of Lorenzo de Medici the Great who is the ruler of the Duchy of Florence he was admitted to the Garden of Artists where he had exhibited his innate talent in sculpture by making a copy of an antique marble head. He made a better copy of the head since he was able to fix the nose. This feat was accomplished even without any prior knowledge or experience in sculpture (Taylor-Foster 13).

From the said moment, Michaelangelo’s output is different fields had been exceptional. The Pieta and David are included in his famous sculptural pieces which had been very successful regardless of his young age then and his lack of experience (Taylor-Foster 9-10; 16). He also created memorable paintings even if he is more inclined to sculpture. The influences of the scenes of Genesis on the ceiling and The Last Judgment on the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel in Rome is included in the main reasons for Michaelangelo’s achievements as a Renaissance man (p. 27). He also contributed in the field of architecture specifically the Mannerist style which had been used in the Laurentian Library (Bull, Buonarroti and Condivi 64).
