Download file to see previous pages In a close understanding of the character of Ellen Weatherall, it becomes lucid that she desires to play an active role in her own affairs as well as those of her children, establishing herself as a strong-willed character. Her dealings with Doctor Harry at the opening scene of the story illustrate this clearly. “’Get along and doctor your sick,’ said Granny Weatherall. ‘Leave a well woman alone. I’ll call for you when I want you…Where were you forty years ago when I pulled through milk-leg and double pneumonia? You weren’t even born. Don’t let Cornelia lead you on,’ she shouted, because Doctor Harry appeared to float up to the ceiling and out. ‘I pay my own bills, and I don’t throw my money away on nonsense!’” (Porter) Therefore, Granny Weatherall expresses and establishes her strong-willed personality all through the short story and she expresses her snappish and rude behavior. The character of Ellen Weatherall provides an important illustration of the dignity with great age and several features as fortitude, determination, independence make this character quite admirable woman. ...?Assignment Assignment Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a highly acclaimed composer spent the last ten years of his life in Vienna, a where art metcreativity and ideas met their end if they were not looked after. His character sketch, according to the words and thoughts of Antonio Salieri provide a twist as he is depicted to be a man of few morals. Mozart is a fun loving man who believes in working as much as enjoying life at full blast; he indulges in drinking, gambling and being affectionate and intimate with women – an act that was frowned upon at his time by various members of the society. Mozart, unlike the character of Salieri, is unaware of the talent that lies within him; he does not know the path of success and that is, perhaps... , what...

...?Araby – character analysis of the protagonist The story takes the help of a simple dream or illusionary craze of the young boy to show him the starkreality of Dublin’s life that is very different from the world of is own making. In the short fiction, ‘Araby’, James Augustine Aloysius Joyce illustrates a low-income neighbourhood of an urban city, Dublin in Ireland from the late 19th or the early 20th century. He uses this kind of a background to depict the lifestyle of the character of the boy, depicted in his story – a boy who creates an outlet for a way to escape from reality. The boy is tempted to hold on to this hopeful dream and falls for it too. ‘Araby’ – the market place is the...

Love in Hamlet, The Jilting of Granny Weatherall, and 'We Real Cool'
...intended for Hamlet; Laertes, who is stabbed with his own poisoned sword; Claudius, who is forced to drink the poison he had intended for his stepson; and finally Hamlet, who fell victim to just one of Claudius' several murderous plots against him. Although Hamlet reconciles with his late fiancee's brother in their dying moments, the sincerity of this is undermined by his anger against Claudius – an anger so overwhelming that the script does not show him mourning his mother. Love between friends holds fast even when familial relationships crumble. In The Jilting of Granny Weatherall the theme of love is the undercurrent which buoys the title character through her final...

...?Character Analysis of the Protagonist The narrator is the protagonist of this passage who narrates us specific incidents of his youth that seeminglytransformed his life. He tells us about the temptations of darker elements of life and about the door of folly that leads to a lifetime of nightmare (here it was just a night of nightmare). The scene is set in night (when most of the crimes happen) and ends with the beginning of dawn. This is symbolic in the sense that the protagonist was leading a dark life that was filled with faults and dangers, but due to some incidents happening in the span of few hours at the darkest part of the day, the blackness of the character seemed to get washed...

The Jilting of Granny Weatherall
...From an analysis of the characters in the book, it is evident that Hapsy is a daughter of Granny Weatherall. In the book, Granny Weatherall is indicated as having four children, and she has never lost any of them except for her last born, Hapsy. This means that Hapsy is dead, and further reading that she died at childbirth. Reading the book alludes that Hapsy died in childbirth, though this is never confirmed by Granny’s flashbacks. This suspicion is from one of Granny’s visions where she sees Hapsy holding a baby, “… to find Hapsy standing with a baby on her arm. She seemed to herself to be Hapsy also,...

The Jilting of Granny Weatherall by K. Porter and Idiots First by B. Malamud
.... Throughout the story, the narration is mainly focused on the main character who is Granny Weatherall who is going through her final days. The style in which he presents his narration is best suited for the story because it allows the reader to follow the consciousness of the main character in the story. Contrary to the work of Katherine Porter, the author of Idiots first employed a different kind of plot in telling his story. It is a fable plot that the author used to narrate the whole story about Mendel and his time and the way he warns his son to avoid Ginzburg. It can also be classified as a short fiction unlike The Jilting of...

...Character analysis in twenty-six men and one girl by Gorky A critical analysis of twenty-six men and one girl by Gorky reveals some interesting relationships between the characters. It is through character interactions in these relationships that the author has been able to develop and extrapolate his major themes. One of the most notable relationships is the one between Tanya and the twenty-six who have locked up in a damp cellar. At first, it is plausible that the Tanya and the men enjoy fruitful relationships. It is noteworthy that even though the men talk coarsely about other women, they never speak bad things about Tanya. According to them, her...
