Indeed this movie elicits different emotions among the audience. To begin with, when Paul arrives in Mexico, as a father, he becomes friends with certain street children and becomes emotionally attached to them. This relationship later presents a painful situation, when Paul learns that one of these street children is a subject of murder in order to save his daughter’s life. The movie ends with a painful scene whereby Paul’s daughter loses her life while his wife shows hatred towards him for failing save his daughter’s life. Summary The movie is a story based on a couple faced with a challenging task of saving their daughter. The only remedy to their daughter health problem is to get a lung transplant from a matching donor. However, this organ cannot be accessed in the United States. He is compelled to travel to the Black Market somewhere in Mexico to purchase the lung. This information is provided to him by Dr. Rubin, who was initially responsible for treating their daughter. Dr. Rubin directed him to Harrison who ultimately gave him information regarding Dr. Navarro in Mexico. In Mexico, Paul is faced by various challenges that basically hinder him from accessing Dr. Navarro. To begin with, he constantly turned away by Navarro’s gang; he is also intimidated by some street children. After meeting Dr. Navarro, who he later learns in Dr. Martinez, he is surprised by the cost of the lung, which he considers expensive. Later on, he realizes, that the organ donor is one of the unwilling street children who is intentionally hit by a motorbike. He rejects this idea and insists that Dr. Navarro has to return the lung to the owner. This leads to the demise of their daughter, creating some hatred between him and his wife, who feels he is responsible for the loss of their daughter. Discussion The entire movie elicits painful emotions among viewers. Paul and his wife Diane are making efforts to save their daughter’s life. Owing to the love Paul has for his daughter, he is compelled to seek for alternative organs from a black Market in Mexico. This black market is controlled by Dr. Navarro, whose real name is Dr. Martinez. The parental love he has for his daughter compels him to interact with dangerous criminal groups in the street of Mexico just to have access to Dr. Martinez. On the other hand, Diane has also created pressure on Paul to take any action to make sure the life of their daughter is saved. Diane is presented as a person who does not care which actions shall be taken by her husband to save their daughter’s life. Her actions and ideology is based on the fact that she loves her daughter as a normal parent would do to his/her child. At the end of the movie, when Paul fails to save their daughter’s life after accessing the lung from a street child and refuses to take it, Diane is seen to be bitter with Paul and basically he is responsible for the loss of the daughter. The plot of this movie is based on a scenario where a young girl is dying from a unique lung disease. The father and the mother have been compelled to seek a donated lung from an appropriate lung donor. The efforts to get the lung are successful but, the lung fails to arrive at an appropriate condition. This is a challenging scenario to the parents (Paul and Diane) as well as the medical expertise involved in the process of treating their daughter. They are forced to take another option, which entails seeking for a donor in the black market of Mexico. Moreover, the director, Baltasar exhibits various ethical issues ascribed to medical and social dimensions of the contemporary society. Furthermore, as Paul makes efforts to access Dr. Navarro, he is compelled to endanger his life by interacting with dangerous street children. The violation of medical ethics by Dr. Navarro is maintained until the end of the movie as he insists on payment even after Paul ordered him to return the lung to the street child. Morally parents are usually responsible for taking care of their Children’s life. Paul is compelled to save his daughter’s even if it means endangering his life. When arrives in Mexico, he is forced to interact with dangerous street criminals, who undertakes illegal organ transplants. In this regard, Paul is exhibited as a person who follows the moral ethics of parental care. However, at the end of the movie, he refuses to accept a lung transplant from a street child leading to the demise of their daughter. This is a contrasting character depicted by the director; it depicts Paul as a person who values moral ethics that does not allow a person to kill other innocent people. It is quite challenging to have a conclusive decision on Paul’s character i.e. by saying that he values the life of the street child more than his daughter’s life. However, the director seems to present him as a caring person, valuing the lives of those who surround him. On the contrary, Paul’s wife, Diane, is exhibited as a person who values moral ethics of parental love and care. She compels her husband to take any means to make sure his daughter is saved. After Paul had informed her to prepare their daughter for the transplant, but changed his mind, she engages in a heated argument and tells her husband that she does not care where the lung comes from. Paul’s decision not to accept the donated lung leaves them with no option. This leads to the demise of their daughter. In this scene, Diane seems bitter and blames her husband for the death of their daughter. Diane character as a parent who cares more for her daughter maintained throughout the movie. The movie has also been made interesting by the application of various emotional appeals. The first instance occurs at the beginning of the movie where, Paul and his wife have faced with a challenging task of searching for a matching lung donor for their daughter. Diane is in tears as she watches her daughter suffer. This is after the lung that was supposed to be transplanted arrived in a bad condition. This is basically a scenario presented to depict the kind of dilemma faced by the parents. Paul is also exposed to a scenario where he has to make a decision between the life of a street child and his daughter’s life. Moreover, his wife blames him for his daughter’s death. She is exhibited as directing hatred towards Paul. In this scene, the direct blends in an emotional appeal of hatred and how it can occur within a family majorly as a result of varying ideas between parents. Furthermore, when one of the street children was hit by a motorbike, other street children show their grief by crying; a moment of happiness is shown at the end of the movie by the director when the injured street kid is joined by his friends to play football. This scenario presents mixed emotions among the street children. The emotional appeals of happiness as well as sorrow is shown among the kids; it seems that this scene was intended to depict the kinds of relationship that occurs between street children and how it can be suddenly broken. Consequently, the director also applied the use of unique sound effects to place emphasis on some aspects of the movie for instance: When the street child was hit by one of Dr. Navarro’s riders, there is commotion and screeching sounds of motorbike tires indicating the kind of rush and illegality of the action performed by the rider. Conclusion This movie may be considered a contemporary movie depicting real life scenarios that occur within the medical field. It depicts a scenario where certain medical practitioners act as cartels for a large organ transplant market in Mexico. The movie is quite interesting and attracts the attention of audience. The director applied the use of different emotional appeals between the actors. However, one may not conclude that this movie is generally interesting owing to the fact that it different audiences usually have varying opinions. Moreover, the movie is presented in a manner that it moves back and forth creating a scenario of past actions that were performed by the actors; this is an imperative feature of the movie.
