Child Development Hypothesis Reading to a child every day (even an infant) is beneficial for language development To have an imperative discussion and analysis of the hypothesis, it is important to delineate the unembellished term ‘language development’. This is defined as the whole process whereby there is the consistent and continuous growth in the connotation and intricacy of various sounds and signs as constructed and professed by persons through a process of maturation and learning. With specific regard to children, the language development means the process by which a child starts to comprehend a language and then begins to communicate with others. It is in order to mention that a number of stages of language development imitate words, cooing and constitutes words with cognition and babbling through the use of various short sentences. (Dale 1994) The discussion of this paper will prove the hypothesis that ‘Reading to a child every day (even an infant) is beneficial for language development ‘. This paper attaches a lot of importance to the language development the rough being read to and reading by themselves. It asserts the probability of development is higher when this is done than in others. Discussion It is unarguable that the ability to read and write is prerequisite in the current era. Therefore writing and reading styles are very important to kids as they can use such skills in their future lives not only as part of their academic and professional lives but in their daily normal lives. A myriad of research has proved that a number of students who live their lives reading books and literature during their early age and therefore high likelihood of performing well in class than others who seldom have an opportunity to read in class. It is clear that when parents or guardians encourage their children in early reading and also writing, it is clear that they are preparing them for a better and mature life in the future. Language Development in Children It is just amazing how children learn to know how to communicate and understand language. Besides, all kinds and types of achievements made by children for example sitting, turning oneself, waving among others is a real happy moments for the mothers who dedicate their time trying to teach their children to learn how to do this. It is no doubt that mothers/parents are the best teachers for their children in terms of language development. All kind of development and the sounds start to make are often those that they hear their parents make. Research also has it that the foundation of any communication in the lives of a kid is at pregnancy. After the birth of a kid they usually get to learn language from persons who are very close to them like their parents whom they listen to speak works and then they try imitating them. As they start going out with other friends they also start learning further languages spoken by other children in the field as they play. Scientists have adopted five theories to help in the explanation on how kids start to learn languages and then start to communicate. The first theory is the navitist theory which believes that children have a sense which is inborn so that they can make something known to the environment and also to share with people are surround them. With the urge and ability in them, children are therefore in a position to make sense of what the environment really offers them. The other theory is the social theory which holds the view that children often copy language and also various words that they hear and also seems from the models who are the caretakers and members of the family. The third theory is the interactions theory that\ realized defects in the first two theories and it stated that the interaction kids have with one another leads to the creation of an environment where they can easily talk to one another and therefore language development. Reading to A child Everyday There are a myriad of methods by which parents and other caregivers can adopt to ensure that language development in their child is proper. Some of this includes; speaking to t he child, using Kids DVDs, encouraging them to speak, making picture books with kids, using fun toy,, talking to them and finally reading to the kid. Psychologists hold unto the view that reading aloud to a kid brings with it a number of needs which is immeasurable. For instance, it catalyzes kid’s development, skills in the entire process of imagination and thinking. Besides that, it provides a perfect opportunity for both the kid and the parent an opportunity together. It is important to mention that despite the fact that the kid does not understand any of the word that the parent utters, it is important to state that it is likely that he will be fascinated by the pictures, voice that comes from reading and the face of the parent will also appeal to him. This will be important in future as it will improve the level of concentration in them. Reading of literature is very important in language development as it results into increased level of intelligence. It builds on trust and also leads to the strengthening of the kid’s social propensity into maturity. Various literatures that include pictures, shapes and animals is vital when read aloud to them. Research has it that when parents read books to their kids vigorously then their natural curiosity develops faster. For example when a picture of an elephant is shown to a child then it is likely that he will be fascinated and as he grows it is possible that as he grows it is likely that they will know more about them. Besides, the act of reading to children gives an opportunity for the children to expand their level and ability of thinking and also the horizon abilities. It also results in them getting rid of any kind of fear and exposing them to things at a younger age. It should be noted that since children learn things from what they see, it is obvious that when reading is done in a right manner then it is likely that they will have good reading, writing and learning manners. As stated above, reading to children at whatever age in their lives removes the fear in them and instills the sense of confidence which is one of the attributes for an individual to successfully and efficiently express themselves in a more easy and confident manner which can be understood by everyone. Research study indicates that kids who are read to by their parents fosters the environment of caring and love and therefore helping them believe in themselves and also growing up with the real attitude of everything being possible. Besides, studies have also indicated that the bond existing between parents and their kids are very important in their upbringing. The relationship that parents have with the kids dictates the type of a relationship that kids will have with them in future when they gate of age. They also affect the ability of the child to confront various issues in life such as emotions, challenges and feelings. When parents spend their time reading with their kids and make it as a routine, the bond with them becomes much stronger and the parents can easily notice weakness in the kid and take necessary actions in time. As the children grow in life, language development is constituted is the building and acquisition of new terms. When a reading is repeated then a kid can easily master the terms. It will also help them in pronunciation. When kids hear their parents say things loud, they are in a position, and then they are in a position to grasp and know the meaning of words and also being in a position to grasp rhythm and melody in the language. (Berk 1997) Conclusion From the review of the hypothesis, it is clear that reading to a child every day (even an infant) is beneficial for language developments important when it comes to language development. Parents are the first teachers of kids and therefore they can easily influence language development in them. The advantages supporting the hypothesis includes; fostering of vocabulary mastery, opportunity to learn and correct grammar, helps in pronunciation, strengthens bond between kids and parents, builds trust, enhances level of intelligences and finally strengthening social propensity to the parents. The paper has also included a number of theories to explain language development. Despite the fact that some individuals would have strong arguments against the theory, this paper presents strong points to support that reading to kids is important n language development.
