Dana brings out the major themes that are portrayed in the book, which include the theme of obsession, theme of freedom, and the major theme of the story - that of slavery. The theme of slavery is the main theme that the narrator has dwelled on in order to prove the fact that slavery back then was a torture. She uses her position as the main narrator to bring out how slaves endured the hard times of slavery. Dana comes from an ancestry that consisted of people who were given hard work, punished for mistakes and lived in fear of their lives. Dana knows that she needs to protect her self-preservation and freedom. She explores one thing about slavery that is just about everything that makes slavery a cruel act. Dana narrates with intense emotion about how slavery is the loss of a person’s humanity. Once a slave, a person becomes property just like any other. As a slave, one undergoes a chain of sufferings: there is work which can be on countless hours, then there are beatings that slaves receive, torture, the exchange from one owner to another and ultimately death. The theme of slavery is what Butler wants to emphasize in this book. She wants to give the readers a vivid picture of what slavery is, that once a property, it is hard to become something else important. In this story, Dana is viewed through different facets. She is happy and contented at times while at other times she fears for her life. She, as the narrator, shows various characteristics of a person at different times. (Butler 30). Through Dana, the reader can see the level of strength and courage that she possesses. She has passed a lot, yet she stands strong and faces all that is brought her way with a strong heart, dignity, self-esteem, self-preservation and the need to show love and compassion to all those around her. She brings out a unique character of a slave. It is through the main character that the reader comes to see what slavery is all about. She is a true definition of a role model. She shows the will to survive the beatings, insults and threats and also to express compassion to her fellow slaves who are treated more cruelly than her (Butler 49). Dana is humane; she understands what the other slaves are going through. Even with her master, to whom she has feelings and clearly likes despite the fact that they are handled non-human beings, she manages to save him numerous

As may be inferred from Phipps and Merisotis’ (1999) argument, online education is an opportunities’ equaliser to the extent that it offers prospective learners from the four corners of the globe the chance to study in and graduate from reputable universities of their choice, eliminating time and space constraints and challenges because it takes the educational environment to the learner and allows the former to design his/her educational programme around his/her time.
Online education has the potential to be an education opportunities’ equaliser but, in practical terms, it has not realised that potential yet. This statement is borne out by Gilbert’s (2001) contention that available statis...
On the other hand, this research is rather indicative of the first trends characterized by the expansion of e-commerce globally. E-commerce has become today the main ‘tool’ for the development of business activities even for companies that were traditionally related to specific regions or companies that have rejected primarily the e-commerce as a ‘tool’ for the increase of their performance. On the other hand, it should be admitted that the USA is the country where is e-commerce has been chosen as a primary tool of the trade for business activities. Other countries around the world are also participating actively in the use of e-commerce as a valuable entrepreneurial strategic tool. It should be noticed how...
The value of total E-Commerce transactions in the major economic sectors1 in the US went up for approximately 78.7% between 2000 and 20042as Manufactures and Merchant Wholesaler depended the greatest on E-Commerce whereas Retailers increased their use of E-Commerce at the highest rapidity. In 2004, E-Commerce grew faster than total economic activity in three of the four major economic sectors, which indicated E-Commerce has been gradually changing the way organizations operate, as well as the consumers’ shopping habits. Looking ahead, it is generally expected that E-Commerce will gain a substantial share of trade between market participants, although it is difficult, at least at this stage, to commensurate the exact extent o...
Scaling the e-business in IT infrastructure is important because it reduces the cost and expenses to interact with the customers and suppliers. It also helps in maintaining and in management of the e-business.
“As your environment begins to evolve, it is important to recognize the value of horizontally scaling your platforms and applications to support increased loads and service requirements. As the concurrency and complexity of your systems grow, the greater the need becomes to support policy-based routing, application and data caches, as well as load balancing hardware and software.” (Whitepaper; August 2001)
From very starting there was a need for those applications that can be used to c...

Web services share business logic, data, and processes through a programmatic interface across a network (Kaye, 2003).
This becomes a platform for business that takes place across the internet in ways that were previously unimagined. E-commerce is much like regular commerce except that the markets have expanded and the competition has become global instead of local or even regional. Web services allow people from across the world to engage in business and the few barriers which remain for truly global commerce are being removed with automated language translators and website optimization techniques that allow users from different locations to view the web as they prefer to view it. All of these developments are takin...

and Malaysia Airways homepage (see appendix 4,5,6) provides the user with an overview of their whole site, which is vitally important as (Nielsen, 2008) explains "The homepage is your companys face to the world." As recommended by Nielsen (2008) Easy Jet, British Airways and Malaysia Airways have used a tagline to capture and communicate the essence of the company; making the sites purpose immediately clear. Their logo is also apparent, boosting brand awareness, differentiating identity from competitors and providing familiarity to users. It can be found in the top left hand corner of the homepage, showing standard HTML conventions have been adopted. Easy Jet, British Airways and Malaysia Airways use standard hyperlinks, tab...
...Running head: PHASE 5 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT PHASE 5: Individual Project Affiliation October 2008 How often have you heard it said that planning is waste of time? No sooner is the plan completed than someone comes along to change it. These same naysayers would also argue that the plan, once completed is disregarded and merely put on the shelf so the team can get down to doing some real work. To people management, we mean the planning activity that involves deciding on the types of people in form of resources that are required to fulfill the requirements of the project. In other words the types of skills and number of workers we need to complete the project (kwysocki, 1997). Whenever we talk about the methods involved in the project... head: PHASE ...
For Yeats, Byzantium represented the highest ideals in art, spirituality, and knowledge, a kind of heavenly realm in which nothing ever changes but remains perfectly representative of the inner essence of art, beauty and spirituality. This is a city that cannot be conceived of by the average mortal and can indeed only be partially grasped in partial form by a living poet in the throes of vision. However, it is a land for human spirits, a place where they can throw off the “complexities” of life in favor of the eternal purity that is housed here. Without knowing anything at all about the conception of Yeats, but merely relying on the evidence provided within the text of the poem itself, it is possible to grasp this conc...

... Number] Comparison of leading Women’s role in Portrait of Teresa and Salt of Sea Every society has different values, traditions and perceptions regarding the role of women that fit within their historical, cultural and social contexts. The cinema being an important cultural institution and reflector of social values tends to depict the role of women in movies to refer their current status as well as to motivate them playing a non traditional role for some specified purposes. In the movies “Portrait of Teresa” and “Salt of the earth” also, the directors Pastor Vega and Herbert Biberman have presented the roles of women in quite encouraging manner to show the women’s potential of playing a revolutionary and defining role in setting...
