This reflects what happen in the societies today. In the world of consumerism, protagonists face deadlocks in life. There lives remain unfulfilled hence become frustrated and dissatisfied. Violence helps people to break monotony of their normal routines and get satisfaction. A 26 year old man known as Patrick Bateman in the text was a serial killer but then became successful when he became investment banker. Bateman described various aspect of his life. He committed a number of gruesome murders. In America, he ventures into appearance and materialism world. Violence, rape and killings help him escape unfilled life in the society. He existed in the culture where everything revolved on the image and society. Bateman might be an image but was empty and annulled of deep identity. He lacked resources over emotional existence. Hype, pomp and pretense became part of his character. His work involves advertisement and illusions. He became flat superficial and unfathomable. Mask covering was the order of his days. He reacted to the abyss of his existence (Frank 2) The book contains prospect of distinguishing violence and especially against women. Quotations The quotations result to protest against the novel. The book’s original publication presented details on of torture and subsequent torture which became shocking. This relate to the present common event on Violence Against Women. There is an exaggeration of this violence in the media, though it is rampant ( Frank 8) Violence against women in families and relationship is other upcoming criminology event. Homicides and intimate violence between partners are in the media almost on a daily basis. Many people are confusing between power and control. There are disconnections of reality between partners. Though the incidences are increasing steadily, journalists are bias in reporting them. Scholars and advocates for violence against women have researched on issues concerning Intimate Partner Violence. Issues put in the media are information the journalists include and omit when reporting on dead victims as a result of relationships violence, description of the victims of violence, the crime circumstances, data collection on crimes and the individuals put on interviews. Journalists show biasness when reporting violence. There is an exaggeration of Intimate Partners Violence. The biases become clear in the assumptions shared concerning the death of the victims and the extent between abstracting crime from being abusive to as an event which is discrete. The newspapers and other media means are brief and not clear. Readers and viewers conclude for the unclear circumstances. People find many gaps to fill. The advocates for Violence Against Women concluded that most relationships are that of boyfriend and girlfriend rather than intimate. The word intimate has been misleading, and media have failed to clarify that. It has become difficult for people to identify whether some relationships have been for the past. A perpetrator may consider being the victim’s intimate though might not have evidence for the relationships. Families have evidence issues concerning non fatal and fatal cases. Partners fail to define “intimate partner” and what Intimate Partners Violence means and entails. Homicide has been increasing day to day. A person can kill another and the court fail to identify whether as a criminal act or criminal intent. Are the person killings qualified as murder, manslaughter or killing for self defense? Issues surrounding human death are spectacle and unpredictable. It has relevance on cultural issues. Journalists fail to report some cases of homicides. This is raising many questions in the public. Failure to report other cases is making People wonder. Why are others emphasized than others? Attention is in some news. Race, sex and social status are some of the factors which determine the homicides cases to be reported. Death is the most crime reported. Biasness has always favored affluent female sufferers. Media framing that includes selection and salience of information is dangerous reporting. There is a need to stop all forms of violence against women and girls. Policy makers should emphasize on violent acts like those which strengthens justice responses, protection of women and girls against all types of violence including trafficking. Media and other organizations should help public understand violence nature of women and its prevalence. Acquaintances and partners are perpetrators of women hence should account for the violence. Needs of the victims should be given attention The narrator of Chuck Palahniuk novel “Fight Club” spent his life as a member of consumer culture. Tyle Durde introduced Joe into fight club. This is where men beat each other bloody, and continued members join anarchist army known as mayhem. This reflects what happen in the societies currently. Wars and clashes are common. According to American literary critic, there was the emergence of a new society after world war two. The society has been multinational capitalism, which means media society. The origin of consumerism started after post war in 1940s, in United States. Valuable things characterize consumer society in the present world. People define lives by money and things they own. People consumption is the route to individual happiness. They display inferiority and inadequacy. Deriving meaning in life is through acquisition, ownership and consumption of material things. Due this, there have been high reports of corruption and stealing in the present world. People bribe to get their ways and issues sorted. They own properties through corrupt deals. This reflected most in developing countries (Frank 6) Conclusion Aggression and violence are the main themes in the text. Aggression is behavior that intends to injure another person either physically or psychologically. It is inflicting bodily harm on someone. According to Sigmund Freud, aggression is human instinct. The TVs and other means of media rely on incidences which are violent. Aggression behaviors involves rape, murder, war which results to bodily harm and killing of people. The consumer societies have resulted to people being greed and engaging in acts like corruption and stealing. Violence Against Women are rampant, and it hit media almost on a daily basis. To stop violence against women is a moral consideration. Everyone should take responsibility to protect women and girls against violence. Governments, other private organizations, and communities should make contributions to prevent women against violence. Mass media should help frame violence information in an unbiased way.
