Family Feud in- Romeo and Juliet In the play involving Romeo and Juliet, love and family feuds forms the center of the play. Shakespeare chooses to portray a world that is full of violence and hate that is filled from the beginning. This feud has been represented in several choruses and plays a bigger role in the production. This is a clear indicator of the thing that relate with the issues progressing between Romeo and Juliet’s love. This is despite the continuing family feuds between the two families (Jennifer, Abigail & George 7). Shakespeare studies offer a wide scope of valuable lessons, literary devices, and cultural lessons to all individuals. As well, the work comes with enjoy and sufficient edification. One of the notable things today is that Shakespeare studies have never been able to grow old (Harold 305). The work has been inspiring every generation from all spheres of life. Modern English curriculum has found the works of Shakespeare to be full of teachings, literary devices, tools and motifs which can be applied in analyzing literary works (Jennifer, Abigail & George 7). That being the case, it is observable that the work touches all areas of English and literature such as poetry, music, story-telling, and English culture. Because of that, the works of these authors have been able to retain their position and significance in present classic literature. The works is thought by many to be able to connect all aspects of English thus offering a wide scope of understanding and opinion towards life. While the work was written very many years ago, modern developers of curriculum has realized the potential of the devices and analytical approaches used by Shakespeare. This has made the work very valuable and therefore it will continue being studied for very many years to come (Jennifer, Abigail & George 7). His work has been able to offer diverse views regarding the society and how some issues such as inequality should be addressed. The combination of literary devices and use of realism in Austen’s work is something that has been widely appreciated for modern teaching of English language in many schools today (Harold 305). With the strife between the two sides, we have to be aware of the tension being represented by the two sides. The violence can be viewed to be minimal in the beginning of the play but it intensifies with the progress of the play. This can be seen during the first scene after Benvolio from the Montague house is seen fighting Tybalt of the Capulet house. Nonetheless, this can be seen as just a measly brawl in the street. In the end of the brawl, none of the guys is critically harmed (Harold 305). With Romeo and Juliet getting married, the violence among the family members begins to gain swiftness. In the third act, first scene, we see Tybalt murdering Mercutio. His dying words were that this would be a plague that will befall both the families. This truly foreshadows what is to come at the end as it brought the end of the violence between the families (Hunter 90). The death of Mercutio’s makes Romeo mad and he challenges Tybalt by stating that, “Mercutio's soul is but a little way above our heads, / Staying for thine to keep him company. / Either thou or I, or both, must go with him” (Jonathan & Eric 153). This leads to Romeo declaring that Tybalt has being banished from Mantua by the Prince. In the play before it comes to an end, we see Romeo killing twice. This happens after he has been misinformed about the death of Juliet. He plans to poison himself by her dead body at the tomb. We see Paris attempting to apprehend Romeo by the tomb. After he fails listening to Romeo’s sense of reason, he ends up been murdered by Romeo. We will have to look at Shakespeare style of writing in order to understand the family feud in the case of Romeo and Juliet. On the other hand, we have other individuals who believe that these literary works are very outdated and old-school thus making them inappropriate for modern curriculum. Such individuals always encourage the use of modern literary approaches because they offer new ideas and techniques in advancing the study of English language (Theobald 15). That being the case, there is the need to plow deep to understand the best way we can use Shakespeare studies. The discussion will be primarily to establish the effectiveness and usefulness of Shakespeare studies in studying English and literature in our secondary schools (Hunter 90). In such essay, we will critically reflect on the major themes and evaluate the plausibility and usefulness of the intellectual and literary concepts as offered in Shakespeare works. This will make it possible for us to establish how such studies can be integrated in teaching English. There have been diverse views and arguments regarding the relevance of Shakespeare works and importance in our teaching literature and English curriculum. This has caused a lot of conjecture therefore leading us to this debate. A number of educationists have been having diverse views and opinions regarding the application of Shakespeare works in teaching literature and English when it comes to the issues of family feud (Hunter 90). It has been believed that the works of these individuals still rich in literature concepts and tools which can be effective to the student. Speaking without false modesty, it is acknowledgeable that there are a number of advantages and disadvantages from studying the works of Shakespeare. For instance, these works improve the ability to make positive and logical opinions regarding different views, improved performance in the language and literacy in particular, being able to speak clearer, and also helped development a deeper understanding in the general nature of humanity. Most of the individuals who study the works of these authors have been able to improve their prowess in analyzing any kind of literary materials ranging from plot, character, irony, and advanced vocabulary (Theobald 15). It is agreeable that the works of these authors remain classic and significance in the teaching of English language and literature in western colleges and secondary schools. This calls for the need to explain the reason why such work is significant today. This takes us back to the tomb where Romeo is about to end his life as a result of family feuds taking a toll in their relationships. From the play and in the tomb, we see Romeo drinking a powerful poison and immediately die. Sadly, Juliet wakes up to find out that Romeo ha just ended his own life. After realizing and coming into reality with what had just taken place, Juliet ends stabbing herself with a dagger. The dagger belonged to Romeo. With the death of both their children’s, Montague and Capulet manage to burry away the hatred they had for each other. Here, we see the prince stating, “See what a scourge is laid upon your hate,/ That heaven finds a means to kill your joys with love/…All are punished."(act IV, scene iii, 292-293, 295” (Jonathan & Eric 153). I can clearly state that the family feud we witness was as a result of an embodiment of immature parents. Unfortunately, this lead to five people whom they truly loved dying before the reality kicked in. The theme of this play has resulted from a combination of carious elements that can be found in the entire work. The common themes are that of love at first sight and feuds among families (Theobald 15). With the acts of Romeo and Juliet aiding in making and defining the concrete plots of the play. It is from here that they manage to become apparent to the audience.
