The theme of love is also portrayed in the film Dead poets Society where John Keating, the English professor tries to inspire his student to love poetry and seize the day. This film shows how Mr. Keating gives his students the skills and lessons on how to understand poetry very well. This is an indication that he loved poetry and this is portrayed when he recalls his experience in school when he and his friends went to read poems to each other. They called themselves DPS also known as Dead poets Society. After the student heard this inspiring story from their teacher, Mr. Keating they decided to restart their DPS they started reading poems to each other. The love poems that were portrayed in Neruda’s poem resonate with the love of poems by the students that were taught by Mr. Keating. In the film, Dead Poets Society, the boys became more alert after they heard the inspiring story by Mr. Keating. The saying “Carpe Deim” which meant seize the day led the student to change their attitude and start to reflect on their future. The DPS was aimed at representing the freedom and individuality in those students that were not confident in themselves. Students such as Neil Perry wanted to become a doctor, Todd Anderson stands up for Mr. Keating.
The play A Raisin in The Sun is about the problems faced by economically impoverished Younger family faces in their quest for making their dream to become true. The younger is about to receive a check of 10,000 dollars from Mr. Younger Life insurance policy. The entire members of family have an idea of what they would like to do with this money. Mama wants to buy a house and fulfill her husband’s dream. Her son, Walter Lee would rather invest this money in a liquor store with his friends as he has the notion that this will solve all the financial problems that they are facing. Walter's wife shares the same dream with Mama. However, she wishes that Walter would create more space for their sons. Finally, Beneatha wants to use that money for her medical tuition. The theme of love is portrayed in the play through the mother-to-son relationship between Ruth and his son. Mama recalls his Husband saying that family is the most important thing to him. This shows the close relationship of the family members and how love is shared amongst them. Even though they are divided on how to spend younger’s money they stay united and share the family bond of love.
Il Postino is a story set in Italy that features a young man called Mario who works as a postman. He has a sentimental character. Part of his job involves delivering the mails of Pablo Neruda who has been exiled to Italy because he is a communist. After reading Neruda’s poem they develop a deep friendship. Neruda later influences Mario to fight for the rights of people and covers him to being a communist. Pablo returns to his country Chile but forgets to carry all of his things. He requests his friend, Mario to send him the remaining things. He does not get a response from Mario and Pablo decides to come back to get them himself. He is surprised when he gets the message that Mario died in a meeting of Communists while reading a poem dedicated to him. He dies a hero. The theme of love is portrayed in different aspects in the film. The love for beautiful things and the gift for poetry are shared by Pablo and Mario. Both of these characters love their wives very much. Mario shared the same notion with Pablo and their friendship led Mario to name his one Pablito.
