While looking at the performance of the students, as Honorary Secretary of the Student-Teacher Coordination Committee, I could not help noticing that the performance of a number of slow students has been lackluster and they have constantly been falling behind, especially in subjects like Mathematics and Chemistry. I trust you are aware that in the light of the No Child Left Behind initiative, it is imperative that we continue to rank and perform at levels which will ensure continued funding for our school and protect the reputation of both its students and faculty.

I would therefore earnestly request you to revive the after school meeting policy and make it mandatory as before, so that the students and teachers can meet and discuss their problems both individually and on a collective basis. Such an action would definitely prove propitious to both our student and teacher populations. I await your expeditious action for the revival of this policy and wish you and the rest of the Coordination Committee all the very best for the rest of the academic year. Respectfully yours, Man of Action.

Scenario 2: You are writing a group of social security recipients about the rising cost of their Medicare premiums: Senior Citizens United, San Francisco Chapter, California, USA. Dear Seniors, They say that it is an ill wind that blows no good and you will agree that unfortunately the USA has had more of its share of bad weather. Hurricanes, thunderstorms, floods and a whole lot of unwanted weather situations have buffeted our States and left their mark on our shores. As if that weren’t bad enough, now there is news that with the increase in the general cost of living, the US Government has recently announced that there will be an inevitable rise in the cost of Medicare by between 2 and 5 percent.

This is by no means good news and we would have to handle this bombshell very carefully indeed. With the economy again judged to be moving towards a recession and lack of opportunities for senior citizens to increase their earnings, applying for senior citizenship discounts in other areas and saving the money earned to meet the increase in Medicare premiums would be one way to handle the situation. The second option would be to collectively ask for some reduction in cost by way of group insurance coverage possibly extending to medical situations, which might be explored as well with various insurance providers.

After due deliberation on the problem, I am convinced that these two solutions and recommendations are ones that are realistic as well as achievable (Lesikar, 2010, 33). I would support you in every way I can to assuage your fears and worries as we plan a collective strategy to be followed and would like your considered opinion on whether approaching the insurance companies is a feasible plan for you. Very truly yours, Old Timer Solicitors. Scenario 3: You are writing to your boss to request time off to pursue your academic interests: Mr.

Moneybags, Affluent Paper Company, Van Nuys, California, USA. Dear Mr. Moneybags, What is the price of a good education? Is it really worth it to spend a lot of hard earned money on a college or vocational education, or for that matter a professional degree in business, such as an MBA? Statistics don’t lie, and recent research shows that a college educated person earns at least $24,000 more per year than high school dropouts, or those that have not had the time
