Despite the fact that she is poor, she is content with her life to the extent that she takes pride in her life-style. Nature has blessed her not only with immense physical strength but also she is no less bold and courageous than a strong man. “I can kill and clean a hog as mercilessly as a man” (Walker). Not just this, she actually lacks the delicacy that is an intrinsic trait of femininity. Most women are weight conscious, but Mrs. Johnson is different. She would instead, like being fat for the fat protects her against extreme cold.

Her overall impression in the story is that of a strong masculine woman who works hard.
