Law 08/10/14 The United Nations (UN) is an international body that governs many nations around the globe. According to Plasch, the United Nations was formed in 1945 ensuring the culmination of the Second Global Battle (Plesch, 2008). The role of the organisation was to stop the re-occurrence of the global war in the future. The organisation was formed to replace the previous League of Nations that was found to be ineffective in the way it managed their duties. Following its realization, the United Nations had 51 members. The number has since increased to about 193 nations. The nation members are governed by several international laws and obligations. These laws are meant to ensure that every nation does not perform some duties contrary to the agreement. The performance of such duties could lead to the global crisis. The united nations have set out several organs and agencies that allow efficiency in its governance. The five principle organs include the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Secretariat and the International Court of Justice (Samuels, 2005). The Amalgamated countries agreement specifies that all chief structures can create several particular activities to realise its obligations. The united nation organizations and agencies, usually, work together in solving some common problems. Some of the interventions that are well established include the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) (The World Bank, 2012). Moreover, the UN has others including the United Nations Educational, Science and Cultural Organization, (UNESCO), the World Bank and the World Health Organization, (WHO) (The World Bank, 2012). These agencies are known in performing their duties that include regulations and procedures that various government are supposed to carry out for efficiency and growth. THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY The gathering, usually, happen ones each year. Sometimes the members meet to discuss some immerging issues that are said to be important and needs to be addressed in urgency. The leading general assembly was carried out in London on 10th January 1946 (Human Rights Education Associates , 2011). The member’s nations present were 51 (Samuels, 2005). The issues to be discussed in a common gathering begins to be planned six months prior to the gathering. The members states are supposed to send their agenda this early to the committee that then sits down to discuss the requests in terms of importance. Sixty days to the gathering, the team finalizes the scheme to be discussed and sends them to the members for earlier preparations (General Assembly, 2011). The assembly is normally held on the third week of September but when an urgent issue calls for discussion, this date is altered to give room for the urgency call. The United Nations general assembly has several roles it plays in accordance to the international law. One of the role the assembly plays is instigating peace to the nation. They, therefore, bring their troops together and build up a formidable force that runs the future of the nations. The role of contributing the force is necessary for the troops as the members come together to seek for peace in a nation (Plesch, 2008). Thus, the joint their forces to fights such acts like terrorism in the nation. A good example is the battle towards extremism in Somalia. Since Somalia is used as a terrorist base in Africa, member’s state bordering the country are highly affected. Kenya is one of the countries that are susceptible to the militia activities. The general assembly has come up together to intercede for the country. They have brought their troops to help in fighting the terrorism this force that is brought together, therefore, becomes necessary for the protection of the member state. Another obligation that the broad meeting plays is the sponsoring role. The assembly discusses ways in which a solution to a particular problem affecting one of the member state will be funded. The fight towards extremism gives a worthy instance. The fight against the al-Shabaab militias in Somalia involves troop from different nations of the member’s states that are funded in a special way. The general assembly consists of members with a relative economic wealth than others. Some of the members like the United States of America have a general better economic advantage than most of the developing nations. They thus contribute a huge amount in terms of funds to fight terrorism. The activity of funding such activities are done by the budgetary committee from the members states (Plesch, 2008). Other activities that are funded by the general assembly include cases of drought and the fight against dangerous diseases. An outbreak of Ebola in the west of Africa and other parts of the continent has called for the United Nations general assembly to seek for the funds necessary to fight the menace. The United Nations general assembly has a role that ensures peace and harmony are installed in the world. Apart from the formation of a formidable force to fight terrorism, the assembly also forms a special committee whose general duty is to ensure that the operations for keeping peace moves on well without a problem. Peacekeeping has since been done in various war-torn countries such as Sudan, Mali, and Iraq among other nations. The obligation ensures residents of a country are safe. THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL The United Nations Security Council a second of the six United Nations organs that is responsible in ensuring that peace around the globe is maintained. The board is made of 15 fellow’s nations where 5 are lasting, and 10 are temporal fellows. The council is vital in ensuring that the implementation of the recommendations made by other organs takes place. One obligation played by the UN safekeeping Council is preserving harmony and haven. The role is in line with the rule of law and the principles laid down by the United Nations. The international law maintains that peace is paramount to every citizen in the country and abroad. The Security Council, therefore, must see to it that the global peace is achieved. The Security Council also performs the role of investigating disputes both locally and internationally that could lead to the outbreak of war. The try to see the cause of the friction and report to the united nation secretary for discussion. The nations that are involved are also engaged it finding the cause of a possible war. When the cause of the war is identified, the Security Council, usually, meet and look for the possible recommendations that can assist in enhancing peace (Plesch, 2008). Therefore, it is the role of the council to investigate and formulate the possible means of solving such disputes, whether locally or internationally. The war-torn nations involve different sides having the weapons. These items of war are very dangerous for the citizens and the global population at large. In order to reduce the attack on people, the Security Council forms a possible system that can be used to reduce the armaments from the people. When people do not have these armaments, there will be no war between them. The council is also supposed to recommend for sanctions when a particular government lack to heed to the agreed means installing peace. When a country is seen as a threat to the global nations, they are informed to stop the act. For example, nuclear weapons have been reported to be dangerous to the lives of people globally. When a country produces such weapons without the recommendation of the United Nations Security Council, economic sanctions are taken towards such nations (Samuels, 2005). A good example of a nation that the council have recommended such sanctions is Iran. The country’s plan to produce nuclear weapons has led to the pronunciation of economic sanctions towards it. The sanctions are meant to make it difficult for the economic development of the country so that they can neglect their plan and join hand with the UN. Other roles played by the Security Council include the recommendation to admit new members to the United Nations. The new members are the countries that want to be associated with the UN. They also recommend military actions to states that are seen to be causing global chaos and many others. The council is thus critical for the global financial progress and serene coexistence. THE WORLD FOOD ORGANISATION Nutrition is the record essential need that is required for human existence. Most of the land across the sphere is not appropriate for agriculture. The early man used to depend on stalking and assembling fruits. That was before sophistication and resolution. Since the human being became civilized, he has depended on the land for farming. The agrarian insurrection followed by industrial upheaval have led to aggressive utilization of land. Food fabrication saw a proliferation in some years. Population upsurge has likewise stood on the ascent. The elevated populace of the globe has created a lot of pressure to the land (Plesch, 2008). Therefore, most of the families have been going without adequate food. The united nations have resolved that every nation must feed its citizens in a proper way. The request have been turned into an international law. The united nation has thus developed an agency, the world food and agriculture organization, to counter attack the problem of food deficit. The insufficiency of food has been blamed to be the cause of many social conflicts including the war in some communities. The agency was formed to give a platform at which scientist can do some research and share the findings that could lead to massive food production. Apart from eradicating hunger, FAO is also entitled to ensuring that poverty is eliminated in the rural areas. The bucolic neediness is on the increase in majority of the budding states (General Assembly, 2011). Most investors choose to invest in the urban centres that are served with good infrastructures. FAO aims at increasing income in this areas by giving seeds that are highly profitable such as those that are used in producing raw materials for industries. Death and hunger are mainly triggered by hominid elements like deforestation. FAO has a responsibility of ensuring that countries and communities bordering forests can preserve the forests so that their land can be productive. Population control and new technological development in farming are also some aspects and responsibility of the FAO towards global satisfaction. United nation has performed its mandate in ensuring that international law is maintained. The huge tasks have come with a lot of responsibilities. The mandate to unite the world towards an everlasting peace remains a great challenge. The challenge calls for unity among the global population and obedient to the rule of law.
