Human Rights in the Developing Countries in 21st Century This research paper will address the situation of humanrights in developing countries. Generally speaking, people in developing countries don’t get all basic facilities of life that the governments are bound to supply. The reasons for not being able to supply the people of the country with basic facilities of life are the lack of resources, finance, poor governance and management. This paper will shed some light on the progress of human rights in developing countries in last few years in 21st century. Introduction Human rights are the facilities and services that the government of the country should provide to its citizens considering them at least human beings. These rights include a variety of aspects such as civil, political, social and economic rights. As soon as the 21st century started, Human Development Report from 2000 pointed out that during the period of cold war, the focus of nation of developing and developed countries were totally different. The latter were demanding social and economic rights while the former were looking for civil and political rights. The situation was quite complicated since both types of nations were demanding similar kinds of rights but with different objectives. Tormented Human Rights in Developing Countries When you have a slight glance at the conditions of human rights in the developing countries, you would get terrified for some amount of time. Due to aforementioned reasons, people are unable to get their desired facilities necessary for their survival. In the 21st century, when developed nations are moving ahead in the race of technology and warfare, the developing countries are trying to make their economy stable and decrease the poverty rate. Human rights are challenged in developing countries in terms of social, ethical, and other kinds of crime that result in loss of life, property etc. It is difficult to find the culprit behind the jail as most of illegal activities are backed by strong political influence as well as bribing. Even when the cases of illegal activities are registered for investigation, the actual criminal is not put to punishment due to his strong links. It is very hard to prove any crime in courts due to false statements and claims presented in the favor of criminals. As a result, innocent people are deprived on their rights. Human rights also require the proved culprits to be treated as human beings. In developing countries, we are quite aware of the conditions practiced in the jails. The people there are treated like animals or even far less than that. They are tortured and punished with severity. It is very hard to consider any such act anywhere close to meeting human rights as possible. We are also aware of the conditions in Guantanamo Detention Centre where terrorists are held like animals. Most of them are not terrorists, but once they are suspected as being terrorists by US authority, they are heavily punished and tortured. The conditions of human rights in 21st century developing countries were worsened by the 911 attack on the World Trade Centre. Human rights were severely violated in different countries containing suspected terrorists. Many innocent people were killed being suspected of terrorist attacks. Liberty and personal security are under severe threat in developing countries as a result of rampant crimes. The people are afraid to express their views openly against any big political personality. People become reserved and don’t share their opinion openly. Governments are run by corrupt political parties that drain the blood of poor people in the form of huge taxes without providing them any kind of advantages. Education is yet another human right that is lacking considerably in the developing countries. These nations are lagging behind quite a bit as compared to developed countries such as China, US, and Japan. Technological advances are many steps below those practiced in developed countries. The standards of education are poor and the literacy rate also reflects the lack of human rights. Even educated people don’t have sufficient mental grooming to utilize their knowledge and skills to stand in competition with the people of developed countries. This failure in competition is attributed to the poor education system that doesn’t focus on learning and applying knowledge. It is based on cheating and cramming of books and notes. The graduates from universities don’t know any kind of trade and they fail in practical life. Government invests on talented students in the form of scholarships so that they may serve the country after completing their education but these students don’t work hard according to the expectations of government and fail in universities. The overall standard of education is quite poor and needs drastic reforms. Developing countries also deprive women of their basic rights. When you see the literacy rates among women in developing countries like Pakistan, you will be quite shocked to see the statistics. Hardly 12% women are literate in Pakistan. This lack of education and awareness is due to the backward thinking among parents of girls. They think that the girls simply don’t need any kind of education since they have to stay in homes all the times and to take care of the children and rest of the family. They don’t want women to become educated and play their role in the society. However, as the years are passing by, the awareness among the groups is rising and more women are become educated now. When we talk about human rights in developing countries, we see dilemma in jobs sector also. The young graduates keep searching for good jobs and they are unable to find the required match of their qualifications with their jobs. They get low salaries, insufficient to meet their expenses. As a result, jobless persons become the source of depriving others of human rights also by using illegal means such as theft, stealing, corruption and bribing. They use their priceless talent in useless activities that damage the reputation of country and deprive others of their rights. Freedom of expression is there but in restricted modes in developing countries such as Pakistan. You cannot speak against any influential party on official media forums. You will be punished if you commit any such act. However, people can speak about their rights and can even claim them on official forums. However, the corrupt government uses the delaying tactics to discourage people to get their rights. The consequences of depriving the people are quite severe. They will react against the government that would result in further instability in the country. When you see countries like Pakistan and India, poverty is eating up their people all the time and they are quite frustrated against the governmental issues. The distribution of finance is quite varied in developing countries. You will find some people who are quite wealthy being friends of some famous political person, and some extremely poor persons who don’t have any resources and they don’t even get sufficient food and clothing. Conclusions The research paper portrays the picture of the situation of human rights in the 21st century in developing countries. The situation looks quite gloomy as people are deprived of their basic rights such as freedom of expression, education for men and women, jobs, security, political participation in governance etc. The consequences of depriving people of their rights are severe such as involvement in illegal activities to do criminal activities. The violations of rules of country make people terrorists and make the whole nation notorious in the world.
