These banks do also form their own union to meet the cost of funding and the risks associated with the IPO. The investment banks also submit bids to companies going public that shows how much money the firm will be generating in the IPO and what the bank too will benefit from at the end of the IPO process. The situation at which an investment bank handles an IPO process is called underwriting. The exchanges role is to aid in making of the pitches to the companies in which case the company with the underwriting has the final say on the selection process.

Apart from the prestige that the company stands to gain in being famous, the process also leads to more trading and future business from other IPOs with the market. Investors especially the small ones do get it very hard to reach any IPO allocation. Unless these small investors have very large accounts with the banks they are doing underwriting with, these small investors will have to wait until the stock is listed on an exchange after which they may be offered some shares they are offered too.

The managers also are buying shares that may end up pushing up the prices in the market; therefore, these small investors are advised to wait until the stock price goes down. The laws or guidelines that the regulators enforce include the disclosure rules as transactions and holdings of directors, officers and company insiders. The company would disclose its financial status regularly through the monitoring of the state agencies on its trading engagements in the stock market. Lastly, the rules also require the company to always conducting its shareholders meeting within a specified period.
